Loaded Firearm Discharges in Cornell Fire, Firefighter Critically Injured

A 35-year-old firefighter with the Cornell Fire Department is in critical condition Tuesday night after a loaded gun discharged a bullet into his abdomen as firefighters fought a Rusk County structure fire Friday. Justin Fredrickson, 35, a 16-year veteran of the Cornell Fire Department, was operating a hose line outside the structure when a loaded firearm inside the building discharged, the Cornell Fire Department said in a Tuesday evening news release.

VIDEO: Huge explosion erupts after 18-wheeler hits fuel train in Texas

An 18-wheel truck hit a train carrying chemicals and fuels in Cameron, Texas, early Tuesday, causing a huge explosion and starting a fire that is expected to burn for several days. The Milam County town of 5,400, about 72 miles northeast of Austin, was rocked by the boom around 6:45 a.m., according to Cameron Sheriff Chris White.

Orlando Fire Department opens new fire station designed to promote diversity

The city of Orlando opened a brand-new fire station in the Rosemont community on Monday. Station 9, known as “Outpost Nine,” is the new home to 30 firefighters on Center Loop off of Shader Road. The 12,000-foot building has private bunk rooms and restrooms for crews and it even includes a secure room for female firefighters.

Missouri firefighter's artwork now on display at Black Archives of Mid-America

Crews extinguish garage fire in Madison

Firefighters responded to a garage fire in Madison on Monday morning. A caller first reported “lots of smoke” in the area of Lakeside Drive near Colby Street at about 9:50 a.m. An incident report said the smoke was coming from a garage fire about a block away on West Lakeside Street. Officials got inside the garage through a side door and quickly located the fire.

Fire causes $250,000 in damage to Washington County home

Firefighters on Tuesday, Feb. 23 responded to the scene of a house fire in the Town of Addison. The call came in around 1:05 a.m. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a house fire at a single-family residence in the area of Alpine Drive and Highway 33. The fire was reported by one of the homeowners.

Kenosha Scouting troops volunteer to dig out fire hydrants around the community

Kids from Kenosha scouting troops spent hours over the weekend digging out fire hydrants buried in snow. Members of 10 troops, including younger kids from Cub Scout troops, dug out more than 230 buried hydrants around the community. Three additional troops plan to continue the work this week, with organizers estimating they will have freed more than 300 hydrants from the snow when they are done.

Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue become an internationally reaccredited agency

Multiple Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue (FDLFR) staff members went before the Commission on Fire Accreditation International to try to regain accreditation. FDLFR says, the commission voted unanimously to again grant accredited status to FDLFR. “I am so proud of our entire organization and extremely happy for the community of Fond du Lac,” says Fire/Rescue Chief Peter O’Leary.

Minnesota company earns verification, becomes only cleaner to use CO2 to clean toxins from firefighter gear

Emergency Technical Decon (ETD) uses a new cleaning process using liquified carbon dioxide to get rid of toxins from gear that firefighters wear, including boots, leather gloves, jackets and helmets.

MetroHealth System part of new Ohio pilot program that puts doctors in ambulances, virtually

A new nationwide pilot program is putting doctors inside ambulances virtually. The MetroHealth System has partnered with three EMS agencies that provide emergency care to bring virtual care via video visits with a doctor in the back of an ambulance. The Emergency Triage, Treat and Transport (ET3) agreement between MetroHealth, the Brecksville Fire Department, Life Care Ambulance and North Central EMS, is designed to offer more focused care for patients who call 911.

Kentucky fire department honors high school shooting victims with new truck

South Milwaukee Fire Department buys water rescue equipment thanks to Tuff the Bulldog fundraiser

Just over a year ago, the now-famous 12-year-old English Bulldog named 'Tuff' fell through the ice, but was saved thanks to a quick response from the South Milwaukee Fire Department. Following Tuff's rescue, the fire department launched a fundraiser by selling t-shirts of Tuff, with the goal being to raise money to purchase water rescue equipment and to make a donation to the K9 for Warriors organization.

House fire leaves two children dead in Minong

Two children are dead following an early Saturday morning fire in Northwestern Wisconsin. The fire broke out around 4 A.M. at W Semrad Road in Minong. It wasn’t immediately clear the ages of the deceased children. Authorities have yet to comment. According to a GoFundMe page, the family does not have insurance and has a goal to raise $25,000 to help with funeral costs and other expenses.

When arriving the garage was fully involved on fire.

Man Arrested in Drive-By Shooting of Firefighter, Paramedic in California

A Stockton man was arrested in Richmond late Saturday on suspicion of attempted murder in the drive-by shooting incident that injured a firefighter and a paramedic in Antioch, and now authorities are searching for his girlfriend and 4-year-old son. The arrest of Darryon Williams, 26, followed a pursuit that traversed two counties and ended moments after Williams' vehicle collided with a parked vehicle in Richmond.
