      A massive fire destroyed a vacant building in South Jackson. The fire was reported about 9 p.m. Wednesday at what was once the ANCOR Adult Daycare on Robinson Road.
The flames were so intense that part of the building collapsed.
Deputy Chief Cleotha Sanders said the business was not operating and there was no power to the building.

      The pandemic has shown how critical emergency medical services are across the country.
But in South Carolina and most other states, EMS is not classified as an “essential service,” as law enforcement and fire services are.
While those services have been part of the US in some fashion since colonial times, EMS is much younger, established in many areas of the country in the 1970s, according to South Carolina EMS Association Advocacy and Legislative Chair Steven McDade.

      Governor Tony Evers signed an Assembly bill into law Monday that strengthens safety precautions for response workers on Wisconsin roadways.
Assembly Bill 297, which is now Wisconsin Act 115, defines an “emergency or roadside response area” as a portion of a road within 500 feet of an authorized emergency vehicle, which must give a visible signal, or a tow truck that has flashing red lights.

      A man was flown to a hospital by helicopter ambulance Wednesday after falling off a ladder while working on a roof at a Union Grove restaurant, officials said.
Chief Tim Allen of the Union Grove Yorkville Fire Department said the man, believed to be in his 50s, suffered a head injury in the fall and was bleeding and unconscious when crews arrived.

      A 40-year-old Fond du Lac man was arrested for arson following a fire that happened Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 7. 
Fond du Lac police and fire officials were called to a home at 302 N. Macy Street just before 3:15 p.m. and extinguished the fire, but not before it caused extensive damage to the home. 
An investigation determined the cause of the fire was suspicious and appeared to be intentionally set.

      A large Christmas tree outside Fox's Midtown headquarters was set ablaze early Wednesday by an arsonist who was quickly taken into custody.
The 50-foot tree on Sixth Avenue went up in flames just before 12:15 a.m., and heavy flames then spread to smaller decorated trees in the display. Police say the 49-year-old suspect climbed up "the metal superstructure" -- the tree is an artificial sculpture that is shaped to look like a tree -- lit papers he brought with him on fire, and shoved the papers into the tree structure.

      For the first time in two months, the United States is averaging more than 100,000 new COVID-19 cases each day, shortly after millions of Americans traveled for the Thanksgiving holiday.

      Milwaukee firefighters went door-to-door in a near north side neighborhood Tuesday, Dec. 7, checking homes for smoke alarms and installing them for people who need them.
Last Saturday, an 81-year-old man died in a house fire even though there were working smoke alarms in the building.
Fire Chief Aaron Lipski says it's not enough just to have an alarm.

      Erick Tiegs, the Caledonia firefighter’s son who was struck in the Waukesha Christmas Parade, is back home and recovering.
Tiegs, 16, returned home last week after volunteer crews built a wheelchair ramp at the Tiegs’ house and the Caledonia Fire Department drove him home with a fire truck and sirens blaring.

      One woman died Monday after a tree fell on an outdoor pavilion outside an apartment complex and trapped her and another woman inside.
Officers and firefighters responded around 6:45 a.m. to 915 Broadway St., according to Sheboygan Falls police.
Police said a 69-year-old woman was able to free herself from the crushed pavilion and had minor injuries, but a 73-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gov. Tony Evers signed a new law Monday at the Amherst Fire District that provides a specific definition for “emergency or roadside response area," introduces new fines and bans cellphone use when driving near active emergency vehicles on the road.
