The North Wausau Fire Department is receiving a $33,000 grant from the state of Wisconsin.
Governor Tony Evers was at the department this morning to announce the investment. $8 million total will be assorted to other departments throughout the state, as well. The money’s coming from the American Rescue Plan and will help with E-M-S Services in Wausau.

Local residents might have noticed smoke and flames coming from a two-story home on Neitzel Road, near State 73, on Monday evening.
Brad and Dave Tork, owners of Fanning Cranberry, donated the house to Wood County-area fire departments to give firefighters the opportunity to practice skills needed to keep themselves and their communities safe.

A Fire Lookout tower in Oconto County is the only tower in the Chequamegon- Nicolet National Forest where visitors can still climb to the top and in 2015, it underwent an extensive renovation.
The Mountain Fire Lookout Tower has been standing in this spot in rural Oconto County since the nineteen thirties.

Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue (TMFR) announced Tuesday that one of their fire stations will be temporarily closed due to a bat infestation.
Fire Station 30 located at 3905 Old Highway 395 will shut down for an undetermined amount of time.
Bats have been found in the living quarters and apparatus bay of the fire station, causing a health and safety risk to fire crews.

Aman was taken to a local hospital after he was rescued from the drum of a concrete mixing truck in the town of Vienna on Monday night, authorities reported.
The Madison Fire Department’s Heavy Urban Rescue Team was called at 9:30 p.m. Monday to assist the DeForest Fire Department and Sun Prairie EMS with the rescue of a man trapped inside the drum of a concrete mixing truck in the 5600 block of Highway V, Madison Fire Department spokesperson Cynthia Schuster said in a statement.

You may have seen a sky full of smoke near Wisconsin Point Saturday —- that’s because Superior Landfill caught fire.
First responders were able to contain the blaze, but the fire department says it’s not the first time the landfill has ignited.
Battalion Chief Joe Tribbey said that the department responds to fires at the landfill a few times a year.

Sioux Falls police say a man is facing multiple charges after crashing a car into a gas station.
Police spokesman Sam Clemens said around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, a man was driving south on Minnesota avenue and tried to turn left onto 41st street. The driver did not complete the turn but instead drove through a gas station parking lot, hitting a gas pump before hitting the front of the building.

When a business owner and beloved member of Denver’s East Colfax neighborhood was shot outside her apartment late July 15, four calls to 911 — including the first one made — went to Aurora’s emergency operations center, most likely because the callers were using Verizon as their wireless carrier.
Technology exists to more accurately route 911 calls from cellphones to the correct 911 communications center, but Verizon — one of the three major carriers in the United States — has refused to install it in Denver and other parts of the country.

A Baraboo firefighter is recovering following a freak accident.
Justin Boak said he was working on his truck when the shop-vac exploded in his face. He was severely burned all over his body.
Boak was transferred from Baraboo to the UW Madison Hospital burn unit. "I was standing there vacuuming around it and all of a sudden it exploded," he said.

According to the North Shore Fire Department (NSFD), a four-car garage caught fire around 6 a.m. Monday morning.
Crews were originally called for a vegetation fire, but once on scene it was determined to be a four-car detached garage.
The NSFD worked to quickly put out the fire as it began spreading to the fence and exterior of a duplex next door.

A detached garage in Superior was destroyed by fire Saturday night.
According to the Superior Fire department, firefighters were dispatched to East 5th street around 9:00 p.m.
Authorities said when they arrived on the scene, flames were coming out of the roof and the overhead garage door of the structure, and fire was starting to spread to an adjacent garage.
