Kenosha’s new fire chief said he’s excited to lead one of the state’s largest fire departments. Earlier this month, the Police and Fire Commission chose Charles Leipzig Jr. to succeed John Thomsen, who retired as chief in July. The commission said Leipzig’s long-term department vision, humility and inclusiveness of personnel stood out to the commissioners.

BAMC provides paramedic-level 9-1-1 ambulance service partnership with the volunteer Emergency Rescue Squad to Marinette, Peshtigo, and Menominee as well as the surrounding towns. Green Bay firefighters spent early Wednesday morning battling a chimney fire. Crews were called to a home in the 800 block of Gross Lane around 1:30 a.m. When NBC26 arrived, visible flames could be seen coming from the roof. Crews were quickly able to stop the fire from spreading by cutting holes in the roof.

VIDEO: Several departments were called out to a four-alarm fire at an apartment building in Whitewater Wednesday night, November 9th. The call came in around 6:30 p.m. This fire occurred at an apartment building on Tratt Street in Whitewater -- University Garden Apartments. Yonkers firefighters are suing the city to force it to build a new firehouse pledged when the Ridge Hill shopping center got its approvals.
The union wants the state Supreme Court to forbid city officials from issuing any certificate of occupancy for the new Lowe's home improvement store under construction at Ridge Hill until the new firehouse is built or there is a firm timetable for building a firehouse under court supervision to ensure compliance.

Wiscasset residents voted by nearly a 2-to-1 margin on Tuesday to allow volunteer firefighters to wash their personal vehicles at the fire station.
Voters approved the practice 1,502-707, according to unofficial results.
The referendum question was the only local ballot question for Wiscasset voters.

This fourth Fire Service Needs Assessment Survey was conducted by NFPA in 2015-2016 and follows three earlier surveys, which were completed in 2001, 2005 and 2010.
This report shows that while some fire service needs have been declining, many have remained constant or increased. Fire service needs are extensive for departments of all sizes and in every area, including staffing, training, facilities, apparatus, personal protective equipment (PPE); and health and wellness.

The state attorney general's office has determined that selectmen did not violate the Open Meeting Law in their selection of a fire chief last spring.
However, the attorney general's office said that minutes from an open session May 16, when the board interviewed candidates for fire chief, lacked sufficient detail and that the minutes show the board wrongly kept secret how they determined the top candidate.

Brookston Fire Chief Michael Payne raced to the scene of a vehicle fire early Tuesday, helped extinguish the fire then collapsed from an apparent heart attack.
