Man's body found in Clark County house fire

VIDEO: The State Fire Marshal is investigating a house fire where a body of a man was found inside. According to Owen Police Chief Andrew Schade, a neighbor reported a home on fire around 3 a.m. Saturday on the 400 block of Bjornstad Street in Owen. Several area departments responded to the scene including the Owen-Withee-Curtiss Fire District, Thorp Fire Department, Abbotsford Fire Department, Colby Fire Department, Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Owen Police Department.

Sheriff: Neighbors help save pilot after plane crash in Mukwa

VIDEO: The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office says neighbors came to the rescue on Sunday after a single-engine plane crashed in the Town of Mukwa. It happened at 4:22 p.m. on the N4100 block of Faskell Road, near the runway at Poppy’s Flying Acres, a private airport. The pilot was flying a new, home-built plane with less than 50 hours of flight time when it crashed.

Madison police, firefighters dress up to raise money for local groups

VIDEO: Local firefighters 311 and the Madison Professional Police Officers Association are holding a black tie ball to raise money for the community. WKOW is a sponsor of the second annual Madison Area Police and Fire Charity Ball held Saturday night. 27 News anchor Amber Noggle was emcee. Firefighters say they like hosting the ball because it shows unity between the police and fire departments.

West Allis Police still looking for arsonist who injured small child

VIDEO: West Allis Police are asking for the public's help in tracking down an arsonist who injured a small child. Police say someone appeared to have intentionally set a fire to a first floor unit in the Lincoln Crest Apartments last weekend. Kuldeep Batanick and other neighbors said they heard a lot of noise coming from the unit, but did not know what was going on.

Westby-Christiana Fire Department wins grain bin rescue tube

The Westby-Christiana Fire Department won a grain bin rescue tube and hands-on rescue training as part of Nationwide’s 2016 Nominate Your Fire Department Contest held in conjunction with Grain Bin Safety Week held annually in February. Grain Bin Safety Week is an annual observance that occurs the third full week of February to promote grain bin safety on farms and commercial grain handling facilities.

Alabama firefighters locked out of stations attempt to get equipment back

Volunteer firefighters in Semmes are worried about protecting the community after they say the city locked them out of their stations without warning. They say they now don’t have access to the millions of dollars’ worth of equipment inside. Former Volunteer Fire Chief Mickey Dearmon, along with several volunteer firefighters and council members, gathered outside the volunteer station on Wulff Rd.

Female Fire Captain files suit against Salt Lake City, mayor and former chief

The first female battalion chief for the Salt Lake City Fire Department has filed a whistleblower lawsuit in 3rd District Court against the municipality, claiming workplace retaliation for highlighting practices by top brass that include alleged fraud, state fire-code violations and cover-ups. Martha Ellis, a 21-year veteran firefighter, was demoted May 3 to captain from her previous position of division chief of logistics.

Baltimore man ordered to pay $1M for puncturing fire hose during April 2015 riots

A 22-year-old Baltimore man has been ordered to pay $1 million in restitution and serve 250 community service hours for puncturing a fire hose during the April 27 riots, prosecutors announced Thursday. Gregory Lee Butler, Jr. (a/k/a Greg Baly) will also serve three years of supervised release, after a judge gave him credit for five weeks served.

Fire Academy director in San Antonio placed on leave

The San Antonio Fire Department has placed on paid administrative leave the head of the agency’s training academy, city and department officials said. “We can confirm that Assistant Chief Joe Jones has been placed on leave,” said city spokesman Jeff Coyle. “But it’s an ongoing personnel matter so we will have no further comment.

Sparks fly at Sourh Carolina firehouse over hiring of paid chief

The lingering issue of hiring a new paid fire chief in Lake Wylie grew heated at the firehouse Wednesday night with a makeshift public forum. The five-member Bethel Rural Fire Tax Board set up to oversee spending in the special tax district went behind closed doors to meet with the York County attorney as about 40 people awaited word on whether a new chief would be hired during the board meeting at Station 1 on Oakridge Road.

Boulder Junction honors two former fire chiefs

Merrill Fire Department unveils new duty shirts in honor of veterans

The Merrill Fire Department is honoring veterans and active military personnel by wearing a specially designed duty shirt. The MFD members are wearing these shirts in honor of the brave men and women who have and are selflessly defending our freedoms. The idea for the shirts came from crew members trying to find a creative way to show support for the new Northwoods Veterans Post soon to be constructed in Merrill.

Mount Horeb Fire Department seeks new building

VIDEO: The Mount Horeb Area Joint Fire Department and EMS are pushing for a referendum to get a new building that they say they desperately need. The department serves two villages and six townships totalling up to nearly 13,000 residents. The voters in those municipalities will have the chance to vote for a referendum on Election Day.

Firefighters extinguish Nemak roof fire in Sheboygan

Firefighters extinguished a roof fire at Nemak in Sheboygan Wednesday night. Fire crews responding to Nemak, 4243 Gateway Drive, just before 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday found flames coming from a vent duct on the roof. The vent stack contained aluminum dust, so water could not be used to extinguish it. Firefighters used a collection of portable CO2 and Dry Chemical extinguishers from their rigs and Nemak to extinguish the fire.

Beloit house fire caused by holiday lights

Firefighters were called at 11:24 p.m. to 2226 Jackson Street where they found a small fire on the outside the front of the home and burning its way up the side toward the roof. The homeowner told firefighters that he saw a flickering outside and when he went out he saw flames from the bottom of the home moving toward the roof.
