City of Sun Prairie alders are trying to cover a $167,000 shortfall in the 2017 budget less than a week before it’s presented to the public and heads to the city council for a final vote. The gap occurred after the city recently found out it will receive less transportation state aid than projected. The city also has a higher -than-expected fire department budget after city officials recently negotiated terms with the townships —- with $14,220 more than was included in the draft budget.

The Ocean City–Wright Fire Control District Board of Fire Commissioners recently rescinded the suspensions of longtime Fire Chief Billy Lord and Deputy Fire Chief Scott Funchess. The board had agreed in September to suspend both men without pay after an investigator claimed they had used inappropriate language in the workplace.

Aug. 22, 2016, is the day Andrea Shipp and Jennifer Goerlitz thought their little girl would not live another day.

A firefighter was injured Friday while battling flames at an automotive shop in Pompano Beach, authorities said.
The fire was reported at Lowther Automotive Inc. on SW 14th Avenue.
WPLG-TV's helicopter was above the scene shortly before noon and saw significant damage to the roof. The fire had already been extinguished.

Once Lackawanna Fire Chief Ralph Galanti saw the blaze that was consuming the former Bethlehem Steel plant Wednesday morning, he quickly turned over the battle to the Buffalo Fire Department. That was just 30 minutes into the fire.
The fire was too big for Lackawanna’s 50-member fire department. Buffalo has 700.

The fire service is and always has been built on pride, tradition, brotherhood and service. There are many examples throughout the history of the fire service of all of these characteristics. There are also examples recently of a decline in these characteristics, specifically pride. What happened to always honoring what those who came before us built? What happened to always leaving the job better than you found it? When did the fire service stop being a calling and become just a job? Being a firefighter is a privilege and it seems many in the fire service have forgotten what the fire service stands for.

A house fire Saturday night killed two pets and caused about $33,000 in damage. Two Rivers firefighters were called around 6:43 p.m. to the home in the 2000 block of Jackson Street. Smoke was seen coming from a window and front door of the house. Once inside, crews were able to put out the fire and save a dog and a cat.

A fire in a dehumidifier caused extensive damage to the basement of a business in Janesville Saturday morning, according to a release. Janesville firefighters were called to 3506 N. Highway 51 around 10:50 a.m. for reports of heavy smoke in the basement of a business, officials said. Firefighters could see light smoke coming from the exterior door and found heavy smoke in the basement, according to the release.

Kenosha’s new fire chief said he’s excited to lead one of the state’s largest fire departments. Earlier this month, the Police and Fire Commission chose Charles Leipzig Jr. to succeed John Thomsen, who retired as chief in July. The commission said Leipzig’s long-term department vision, humility and inclusiveness of personnel stood out to the commissioners.

Bay Area Medical Center announces the arrival of a new Paramedic intercept vehicle. BAMC provides paramedic-level 9-1-1 ambulance service partnership with the volunteer Emergency Rescue Squad to Marinette, Peshtigo, and Menominee as well as the surrounding towns. The service also works closely with the City of Marinette Fire Department when responding in Marinette.

Green Bay firefighters spent early Wednesday morning battling a chimney fire. Crews were called to a home in the 800 block of Gross Lane around 1:30 a.m. When NBC26 arrived, visible flames could be seen coming from the roof. Crews were quickly able to stop the fire from spreading by cutting holes in the roof.
