Fire damages building in Cranmoor

An early morning explosion Wednesday woke the marsh foreman for Searles and Son Marsh as fire broke out in a 4,900 square foot building. The building, a combination of maintenance shop and warehouse, was burning heavily and partially collapsed when firefighters arrived on scene at 3864 Searles Road, Cranmoor, about 10 miles west of Wisconsin Rapids, Vesper Fire Chief Dennis Dederich said.

Area church prepares meal for Chippewa Falls firefighters

Three hospitalized with carbon monoxide poisoning in Green Bay

Three people are being treated for carbon monoxide poisoning Wednesday morning. Green Bay Fire Fighters were called to a home on Deer Trail early just before 2 a.m. for the report of a sick child. When firefighters entered the home, a carbon monoxide detector on one of the firefighters EMS bag went off.

Wausau apartment fire displaces nine people

No one was hurt Tuesday afternoon after a fire broke out inside an apartment on Wausau's south side. The Wausau Fire Department says the fire erupted about 2:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of Townline Road. Firefighters were summoned on the report of "smoke showing" at one of the apartments, the agency said.

Lake Geneva Fire Department starts Red Wreath campaign

The Lake Geneva Fire Department wants residents to help keep its wreath red. Fire station number 1 on Marshall Street has hung a red wreath above the apparatus doors to remind residents to practice fire safety during the holidays, said Lt. Dennis Detkowski of the fire department's Fire Prevention Bureau.

Town of Beaver Dam has concerns with a new fire rescue contract

The city of Beaver Dam and the rural communities that make up the Beaver Dam Community Fire and Rescue Association went through every paragraph in a new three-year contract between the city of Beaver Dam and the townships Tuesday. One area that did not sit well with the town of Beaver Dam was a change to the contract includes a clarification to the services the Beaver Dam Fire Department provides.

VIDEO: Vehicle rams fire truck in South Carolina

One person was transported from the scene after a car rammed into a fire truck near the Coastal Carolina University campus multiple times Tuesday afternoon, according to officials and witnesses at the scene. Lt. Brian VanAernem with Horry County Fire Rescue said no firefighters were injured in the crash, which happened on Highway 544 and Founders Drive, just outside the university campus.

Extent of Tennessee fire damage comes into grim focus

Flames tore through the Great Smoky Mountains, killing at least three people, scorching hundreds of homes and businesses and sending more than 14,000 fleeing from the resort towns of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Tourists and residents scrambled Monday night and early Tuesday to outrun the blaze, which was pushed from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park into the towns by wind gusts of almost 90 mph.

Georgia firefighters want override after veto of cancer legislation

Georgia firefighters still hoppin’ mad over Gov. Nathan Deal’s veto earlier this year of cancer legislation related to their work have vowed an even stronger comeback for the coming legislative session that begins Jan. 9 — including a push to override the veto. Jim Daws, president of the Professional Fire Fighters of Georgia, sent a notice Monday calling on colleagues to contact their state lawmakers to back the effort.

Delaware fire chief urged to seek more funds, reconsider station closures

New Mexico firefighter catches suspect stealing his gear

When Miguel Rivas woke up before dawn Monday and went for a drink of water, he noticed a burglar taking some of his firefighter equipment from his car in the driveway. He grabbed his shotgun, ran outside with his two terrier- and pit bull-mixed dogs and held the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived, according to a police report.

One dead in town of Newark house fire

VIDEO: One person died in a town of Newark house fire Tuesday morning, Rock County Sheriff Robert Spoden said. The sheriff's office declined to share the victim's name, age or gender pending informing next of kin. The victim's identity likely will be revealed later today, Spoden said. The cause of the fire that destroyed the house at 10219 W.
