Car collides with Randolph fire truck on way to fire

A Randolph Fire Department truck was struck by a Ford Fiesta Friday morning while the truck was responding to a fire on Highway 33. The collision took place at the intersection of Pleasant Road and Highway P. Randolph fire chief Bruce Miller said neither of the firefighters in the truck was injured. “The driver of the vehicle was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” Miller said.

Flight for Life Called after Person Falls Off Glenbeulah Fire Truck

Flight for Life was called to the Glenbeulah Fire Department in Sheboygan County Wednesday evening. According to the fire chief someone fell off a truck at the fire department. It is unknown if that person is a firefighter and the current condition of the person is unknown.

McFarland firefighters climb to tackle lung disease

Five members of the McFarland Fire Department are preparing to climb more than 1,000 stairs while wearing full turnout gear. The quintet will walk up the stairs at the U.S. Bank Building in Milwaukee on March 18 as part of the Fight for Air Climb to raise funds and awareness for the American Lung Association.

Larger fire station may be in Wheatland’s future

The need for a larger fire station in Wheatland was discussed at the Town Board meeting Monday in an effort to begin long-range facility planning. “We have outgrown the existing building,” Fire Chief Lou Denko said. Denko said the station houses five trucks and the all-terrain vehicle used to fight grass fires.

Georgia firefighter rescued by RIT after falling through floor battling apartment fire

A specialized team is credited with rescuing a DeKalb firefighter after he fell through the floor while battling a two alarm blaze in Panthersville. The fire happened at Hidden Villas apartments in the 2900 block of Panthersville Road late Thursday night. Fire crews at the scene initially attempted an "offensive attack" of the flames but backed off as the fire grew.

Pennsylvania fire chief's widow gets court's OK to keep fighting for benefits over his cancer death

The widow of a volunteer fire chief has won another shot at securing workers compensation benefits on a claim that her husband contracted fatal cancer from the smoke and diesel fumes he inhaled during decades on duty. Cheryl Steele got that second chance Wednesday when a state Commonwealth Court panel ordered the state Workers Compensation Appeals Board to reconsider its refusal to award her benefits for the August 2011 death of her husband, Roy.

Mass-casualty training ‘paid off’ in response to Mississippi train-bus crash

Earliest documented tornado to hit La Crosse County caused damage Monday

The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado hit La Crosse County Monday night, the earliest recorded instance of a tornado in western Wisconsin. The F-1 twister, with winds of 100 to 110 mph, touched down near Barre Mills about 8:45 p.m. and traveled about 3 miles to the northeast, lifting up south of West Salem, according to the Weather Service.

South Shore Fire Department crews battle fire at Affordable Tree Care

Crews spent hours Wednesday battling a fire that started in a wood pile at Affordable Tree Care, 3201 Highway H. The fire, which was reported about 12:30 p.m., spread from the wood pile onto parkland and up to the railroad tracks, said Mark Pierce, South Shore Fire Department division chief. A box alarm was called, bringing in additional crews from Racine, Kenosha and Milwaukee counties.
