Woman injured, pinned by heavy cabinet at work, Madison fire officials say

Firefighters helped a woman who was trapped under a heavy piece of furniture at work in downtown Madison Tuesday afternoon. The Madison Fire Department said an employee at a business in the 300 block of East Wilson Street was rearranging files alone in a locked room when the top drawer of the file cabinet caused it to become top-heavy and tip over.

Mauston Fire Department has busy Sunday

It was a busy Sunday for the Mauston Fire Department as the volunteer service responded to three calls on March 12, including a house fire. A fire reported at W3728 Partridge Lane totaled the second story of a home owned by Keyslyna Iwanska. The first floor suffered heavy smoke and water damage. Mauston Fire Chief Kim Hale said Iwanska and a pet escaped the fire without any injuries and some possessions were recovered.

Fire in Portage home claims several pets

The Portage Fire Department put out a house fire on Hamilton Street on Tuesday afternoon, responding with the benefit of some great fortune, and at the same time, not quite enough. “I was heading to work and I drove by the house and something didn’t look right,” said department Capt. Robert Wood, who happened by 826 Hamilton St.

After 47 years, Kenosha firefighter still burns for hockey

House Captain Daniel Radandt, 55, of Station 7 of the Kenosha Fire Department, has been a hockey goalie for more than 40 years. He learned the sport as a child and continues to play competitive hockey in Kenosha. Q. How did you get into hockey? A. It was at age 8. My dad made a rink on a pond. We used to live on KR and Highway 31.

Oakland fire chief retires

A little more than three months after the deadly Ghost Ship fire and with the investigative report still pending, the city’s first African American female fire chief Teresa Deloach Reed filed retirement papers Tuesday, days after her city pension vested, the city administrator said. Reed, a 59-year-old Oakland resident, filed retirement paperwork Tuesday with an effective date of May 5, City Administrator Sabrina Landreth confirmed.

Kentucky city to settle firefighters’ overtime lawsuit for $17.7 million

The city of Lexington will pay firefighters $17.7 million for back overtime and pension. The payment stems from a 2005 lawsuit filed by Lexington firefighters alleging that the city owed them money for overtime worked. The details of the settlement are being worked out and must be approved, city and firefighter union officials said.

Alaska bill would give free insurance to survivors of first responders killed on job

The Alaska House on Monday unanimously approved a bill to guarantee health coverage for family members of firefighters and law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. House Bill 23, sponsored by Anchorage Democratic Rep. Andy Josephson, is the latest attempt at passing such legislation, which died in the Senate during a special session last year.

Police investigate fatal house fire in Princeton

Authorities are still trying to identify a person who died early Monday morning in what they call a suspicious house fire in Green Lake County. The Princeton Fire and Police departments, along with the Green Lake County Sheriff's Office, responded to a report of a house fire at 12:50 a.m. Monday in the 100 block of South Farmer Street in Princeton, according to a police department news release.

Sidewalk collapse causes Maryland firetruck to tip over, two volunteers with minor injures

PHOTOS - A Prince George's County firetruck tipped over Monday morning because of a sidewalk collapse, causing minor injuries to two volunteers who were in the truck. Fire officials say the truck was "wetting down rekindle" from a house fire that had started Saturday night in the 4700 block of Oliver Street in Riverdale.

Two firefighters dodged death in fatal inferno caused by hoverboard: Pennsylvania fire chief

The hoverboard was plugged into an outlet by the front door next to an overstuffed chair, where a child sat. The child's father was nearby, relaxing on a couch. That's when both of them heard crackling noises and, saw smoke. Within moments, the hoverboard had "exploded fiercely," blocking their way out of the front door, said Fire Chief Brian Enterline.

5 Texas firefighters fired after video surfaces on Snapchat

VIDEO - One volunteer was suspended and five paid part-time firefighters with the Westfield Fire Department were fired Monday after a video surfaced on Snapchat and showed a firefighter strapped to a backboard and being doused with water and covered with several condiments. KPRC then showed the video to Westfield Fire Chief Stephen Whitehead, who said it appears the incident took place at the department’s main fire station on Lauder Road.
