A car crash Sunday morning at a west side intersection caused a natural gas leak, according to a release from the Madison Fire Department. Firefighters were called at 10:35 a.m. to the intersection of Watts Road and Struck Street on a report of a car crash and the odor of natural gas. There were no injuries in the single-vehicle crash, but the driver reported running over a small tree, a natural gas pressure monitoring station and a pressurized gas pipe and then into an Alliant Energy transformer box that services the surrounding commercial district.

Three people were hurt during a house fire in Kaukauna Sunday. At about 5:21 p.m., the Kaukauna Fire Department was called to a home at 802 Crooks Avenue. The department says firefighters arrived to find heavy fire in the kitchen and smoke coming out of the front and rear doors and the eaves of the roof.

But one East Bay fire department says paying out a lot of overtime is actually saving taxpayers money.
In 2015, firefighters in San Ramon were making as much as $400,000 a year in total compensation.

A veteran who fired gunshots at firefighters doing a welfare check on him at his residence said he thought someone was trying to break in.

The father and child who escaped a fire that took the lives of five family members Saturday walked nearly a quarter-mile away to get help from the nearest neighbor, officials said Sunday.

VIDEO: A fire broke out at the Mayville Fire Department on Horicon Street late on Saturday, March 4th. Officials said shortly after 10:00 p.m., a passerby saw flames inside the building and called 911. The fire was confined to one apparatus. The station had heavy smoke. A firefighter arrived at the scene of a deadly blaze early Wednesday morning only to realize it was his sister's family's home.
"It was the family of one of our firefighters," Chief Rich Holloway said, “so he's dealing with that currently."
