Beaver Dam Fire Chief recommends new rescue boat to commission

Beaver Dam Police and Fire Commission unanimously approved purchase of a new rescue boat for the Beaver Dam Fire Department Tuesday night. Fire Chief Alan Mannel is recommending a 24-foot aluminum boat made by Kann Manufacturing with a low bid of $61,000. Mannel said in an email that the boat will have a semi-v bottom, trailer and a Mercury outboard motor.

Update: Deadly explosion in Greenfield believed to have resulted from fumes building up

Investigators have concluded that the explosion and fire that killed a 24-year-old Greenfield man at an apartment complex was caused by a buildup of gasoline fumes near a running lawnmower. Andrew J. Knutson died in the explosion and fire in a maintenance shed at the Willowick Apartments, 7020 W. Southridge Drive, shortly before 10 a.

Authorities suspect they found Milwaukee arsonist in burn unit

A 24-year-old found at an area hospital with severe burns is believed to be behind an explosion and fire two weeks ago that destroyed a a Honda Ridgeline and a garage on the city's north side. According to a search warrant, a neighbor saw a man running from the fire at North 29th and West Center streets on July 17 while tearing off his two burning shirts.

Retired New Jersey Firefighter Dies 24 Years after Sustaining Injuries

A retired New Jersey firefighter will receive full honors as a line-of-duty death after succumbing to injuries he sustained 24 years earlier. Former Perth Amboy firefighter Richard W. Leonard, 70, died Sunday from complications of toxic smoke he inhaled while battling a fire on April 19, 1993. Leonard was operating a pumper on State Street in Perth Amboy during efforts to contain a blaze at a plastics recycling facility and spent hours taking in the smoke and fumes without any breathing equipment.

Report: Training gaps nearly killed Florida firefighter

Lack of training, command presence and a failure to appreciate an extremely hazardous situation severely sickened and almost killed a firefighter trying to save three utility workers who were overcome by toxic fumes in a drainage hole 15 feet beneath a Key Largo street in January. Ohio airport fire chief a no-show at discipline hearing

The chief of the Hopkins Airport fire department was a no-show Monday at a pre-disciplinary hearing that could have led to his firing. For now, Chief Roosevelt Davis remains in charge of the department while an investigation into his conduct and bogus overtime payments to firefighters continues. The findings of overtime abuse were uncovered in an internal audit and it was Davis who signed off on the payments.

Confederate Flag Sparks Conflict at Maryland Fire Station

Firefighters in Bethesda, Maryland, are in court after an argument over one firefighter's Confederate flag license plate. A Montgomery County firefighter with 10 years service says he spoke out against racism after seeing a fellow firefighter had the flag affixed to the front of his pickup truck. Fellow firefighters say in court documents requesting protective orders that the firefighter, Idris Debruhl, threatened them.

Lightning may have sparked fire that destroyed garage in Hull

VIDEO: A lightning strike may have started a fire that destroyed a garage Monday afternoon in the town of Hull. The fire was reported shortly before 4 p.m. near North Reserve Drive, a few miles north of Stevens Point. The garage was engulfed in flames and the roof had already collapsed by the time firefighters arrived on the scene, according to Hull Fire Chief Mark Kluck.

Early-morning fire destroys house in Hales Corners

VIDEO: An early morning fire destroyed a home in Hales Corners early Monday morning. The home is located at 124th Street and Edgerton Avenue. It was engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived around 4:45 a.m. The fire caused the roof and portions of the second floor to collapse. An official with the fire department said no injuries have been reported.

Marathon County lists three possible causes for landfill fire

VIDEO: The Marathon County Solid Waste Department has listed three possible causes for a fire that broke out at the landfill Sunday afternoon. Authorities responded to the scene at around 2:00 p.m. after receiving calls from neighbors and drivers on Highway 29 about smoke billowing into the air. Department Director Meleesa Johnson said landfill fires are not unusual, and are usually caused by batteries, charcoals, or fireworks.

As Holmen expands, so does its police, fire departments

To meet the need, the Holmen Police Department and the Holmen Area Fire Department have added new hires to their rosters. Officer Tyler Franks started with the Holmen Police Department June 26 and has been undergoing six weeks of field training with another officer.

On-duty firefighter who died of heart failure was respected Detroiter

New Jersey fire department spends $1M more in OT than police, upsetting cops

Cops versus firefighters is one of the oldest rivalries in the books. When it comes to overtime between the two public safety agencies in Trenton, that’s a feud that’s been brewing the past few years. For the city’s fiscal year 2017 that ended on June 30, the fire department spent $1.04 million more than police in overtime, according to budget documents obtained by The Trentonian through a public records request.

3 Texas Firefighters Injured In Multi-Vehicle Accident

A four-vehicle accident in Hood County Saturday afternoon left seven people injured including three firefighters. Hood County Fire Marshal Ray Wilson confirmed the injuries in the accident along Highway 51, and he says they are all doing okay. Two people including a female firefighter from the North Hood County Fire Department were transported hospitals via air ambulance.

Drop in New York EMTs raises certified first responder question

If you’re in need of immediate medical attention in New York state and a less qualified first responder appears on your doorstep, you may have to wait for someone more qualified to transport you to the hospital. But there are some people in Niagara County — and elsewhere in the state — who are trying to change that.
