Madison CampHERO encourages girls to consider police, fire and EMT careers

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for 2016 shows a sharp difference in the number of women and men in law enforcement, fire and other related fields. Across the nation, about four percent of women are firefighters and about 14 percent in law enforcement are women. However, a program in Madison is working to even out those statistics.

Recruiting for future Beloit firefighters

In an effort to increase local outreach in the Stateline Area to get job seekers interested in the fire service, the Beloit Fire Department is currently revamping its recruitment policies and youth outreach efforts. The department was asked by the Beloit Police and Fire Commission to review its policies for outreach in April.

Montana firefighter dies on the fire line in Lolo National Forest

A firefighter has died while fighting a fire in the Lolo National Forest. According to a press release sent from Grayback Forestry, a 19-year-old and a Missoula resident was killed in the line while fighting a fire on the Seely Lake Ranger District. The Grayback Forestry employee was part of a 20-person attack crew.

U.S. hotel, NFL arena may sport flammable panels

In promotional brochures, a U.S. company boasted of the "stunning visual effect" its shimmering aluminum panels created in an NFL stadium, an Alaskan high school and a luxury hotel along Baltimore's Inner Harbor that "soars 33 stories into the air." Those same panels — Reynobond composite material with a polyethylene core — also were used in the Grenfell Tower apartment building in London.

Illinois town mourns fire battalion chief called 'cornerstone' of department

The village of Carpentersville is mourning the unexpected death Tuesday of Fire Battalion Chief Todd Middendorf. "He was basically one of the cornerstones of the department," Fire Chief John-Paul Schilling said. "He was well-loved within the entire region." Middendorf, 46, was a resident of Carpentersville and member of the local fire department for 23 years, starting as a part-timer in 1994 and moving to full time in 1997, Schilling said.

Florida Fire Truck Involved In Deadly Crash On Expressway

VIDEO - Miami-Dade firefighters were saved by one of their trucks during an emergency call on the Palmetto Expressway. Overnight, fire crews were called to assist in a hit and run accident in the southbound lanes of the highway between Okeechobee Road and NW 74th Street. Arriving crews used a fire engine to block off two lanes of traffic while they helped the injured driver.

New Hampshire boy, 6, believed to be state’s youngest OD case revived by firefighters

Three rookie Ohio firefighters save one of their own

Wildfire forces evacuation of 2,000 from California town

An entire California town was evacuated on Tuesday evening due to a 25,000-acre wildfire that had already destroyed eight structures, officials said. No fire alarm at Virginia senior living complex where 3 died in massive blaze, fire department says

Rural North Carolina fire departments face technological challenges

Investigators: Discarded smoking materials cause of La Crosse apartment fire

VIDEO: Fire crews had to deal with the extreme heat while fighting a fire on La Crosse's south side Tuesday afternoon. The call for the fire at an apartment building on the corner of 8th and Division Streets came just a little after 4 p.m., with firefighters responding within 51 seconds. Monday morning fire in Elk Mound considered suspicious

A Monday morning fire that rendered a long-time vacant Elk Mound home a total loss is considered suspicious, Chippewa Fire District officials said. Firefighters standing vigil over body of Washington fire chief

In a tradition as old as the service, firefighters from Lynden and around Whatcom County are standing vigil over the body of Lynden interim Fire Chief Robert Spinner, who died Friday of an apparent heart attack while on duty. It is the first line of duty death in the Lynden Fire Department’s 107-year history, according to a statement issued late Sunday, and the second on-duty firefighter death in Whatcom County – the other line of duty firefighter death was in March 1950, when Whatcom County Fire District 7’s Chief Clyde Eaton suffered fatal burns as a barrel of fuel exploded at a fire.
