Sun Prairie Culvers raises more than $ 21,000 for firefighter's families

The Sun Prairie Fire Department was honored Monday, Aug. 6 with a special guest. Duane Sprecher, owner of the Sun Prairie Culver's restaurant, presented a check for $ 21,642.83 to go toward Capt. Cory Barr's family as well as Firefighter Ryan Welch's family. The money was collected with 50 percent of proceeds from one day's sales in addition to funds collected in a donation jar on the restaurant's front counter.

2 Colorado firefighters airlifted to hospitals after rollover wreck

VIDEO - Two Franktown firefighters responding to a house fire in Sedalia rolled in their water truck Tuesday evening and were airlifted to area hospitals in critical condition, a spokesperson for South Metro Fire and Franktown Fire told 9NEWS. Early Wednesday morning, Franktown Fire tweeted the condition of the two firefighters had improved.

Los Angeles firefighter files discrimination suit, saying his equipment was smeared with feces

An African American firefighter filed a lawsuit against the city on Monday, alleging he repeatedly faced discrimination and retaliation while working at a fire station in South Los Angeles. Emanuel Brown, a 10-year employee, said the mistreatment began Easter Sunday in 2017, when he found feces in a compartment where he stored his jacket and breathing apparatus.

Nevada fire department tests new sensor technology to find people faster in an emergency

The Reno Fire Department performed a new sensor technology test on Saturday, Aug.4 at the University of Nevada, Reno Innevation Center that can potentially help find people faster in an emergency. SimpleSense developed sensors to assist firefighters in what’s called the primary search. The primary search is the best chance for firefighters to find anyone trapped inside a burning building, and involves quickly searching as much of the building as possible to locate anyone still inside, according to Reno Fire.

New La Crosse firefighters go through hands-on training

VIDEO: The La Crosse Fire Department has welcomed five new firefighters. However, before responding to calls, the new recruits are required to go through four weeks of training. For Scott DeLong, the summer training is not his first experience as a firefighter with the La Crosse Fire Department. "Me and another guy actually started in April," DeLong said.

Update: Police Say Murder-Suicide in Town of Clayton House May Fire

Investigators have ruled a deadly house fire in the Town of Clayton a murder-suicide. On Tuesday, the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the State of Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation and the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office, completed the investigation into the deaths of 27-year-old Ashley Mielke and 38-year-old Jeremy Wallenfang, whose remains were located in the burned rubble.

Kansas Firefighter, His Two Sons Killed In Oklahoma Plane Crash

The Independence Rural Fire Department in Kansas confirms that one of their firefighters was killed in a plane crash Saturday (Aug. 4) outside Ponca City, Oklahoma. Sycamore Firefighter Nicholas Warner, along with two of his sons, his dad Bill, and friend Tim Valentine all died in the aircraft accident, according to a Facebook post.

Fire Data Lab Announces Grant Opportunity

Man accused of killing California fire captain dies of illness six weeks after shooting

The man accused of fatally shooting a Long Beach fire captain six weeks ago after setting off a predawn explosion in a high-rise apartment building died in custody over the weekend, authorities said Monday. Thomas Man Kim, 77, died at 3:21 a.m. Sunday in the hospital ward of County-USC Medical Center, where he had been held since he was arrested June 25, said Deputy Wally Bracks of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Fond du Lac Firefighters Prepare for Fill the Boot Campaign

Car fire damages two Sturtevant homes

PHOTO: The South Shore Fire Department was notified of a vehicle fire between two houses at 3202 Kennedy Drive at 4:11 p.m. Sunday, according to a press release from Battalion Chief Steve Salvo. After arriving on the scene, Sturtevant Police Department officers confirmed a fully involved vehicle fire and started evacuating residents from duplexes located on both sides of the vehicle fire.

Wauwatosa Fire Department Earns Prestigious ISO Class 1 Rating

The City of Wauwatosa Fire Department has received the Insurance Services Office (ISO) Public Protection Classification rating of Class 1. This rating has only been received by six fire departments in Wisconsin and approximately 300 nationwide. The ISO currently evaluates over 50,000 fire departments with only less than 1% earning the Class 1 rating.

New Jersey firefighters mourn 'big-hearted' colleague who had medical emergency hours after call

Englishtown Fire Chief Lou Sarti said the death of long-time firefighter Pasquale "Pete the Pepper" DiBenedetto on Thursday has left a big hole in the close-knit volunteer department in Monmouth County. "It's a very big loss," Sarti said of the 47-year veteran of the department. "It's a hole I don't know if we'll be able to fill.
