Ohio firefighter named CrossFit's fittest 50-year-old man

Cliff Musgrave been named the world’s fittest 50-year-old CrossFit athlete in the men's division. He also happens to be an Akron firefighter. "It’s a very blue collar job with structural firefighting," said Musgrave. "So being in shape certainly makes it better." Musgrave isn’t just in shape, he was named the world’s fittest 50-year-old man after competing in the year’s Reebok CrossFit Games.

Vehicle crashed into University of Wisconsin Credit Union building Saturday morning

After a vehicle crashed into the University of Wisconsin Credit Union at 3750 University Ave. early Saturday morning, the Madison Fire Department's Heavy Urban Rescue Team found no threat of building collapse. A release said multiple crews were sent to the scene around 1 a.m. Saturday, after the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle crashed.

House catches fire in Green Bay

A Green Bay home caught fire and caused $25,000 worth of damage, on the city's east side, Sunday evening around 5:42. The Green Bay Metro Fire Department says smoke and flames were coming from outside the back part of the home at 1376 Doblon Street. The fire burned the side of the home, a portion of the roof and inside the home and into the bathroom area, according to officials.

Manitowoc fire: Neighbor who called 911 credited with minimizing damage

A neighbor who saw smoke coming from the roof of a nearby home and called 911 is credited with minimizing the severity of a fire in the 900 block of Rosemere Circle on Sunday morning. Manitowoc Fire Rescue Department responded to the 911 call around 8:30 a.m. Sunday. A press release from the department said the home was not occupied when firefighters arrived on scene and smoke was visible from the ridge line of the home.

Oklahoma Assistant Chief Killed in Collapse of Burning Home

The collapse of burning home in Altus claimed the life of an assistant chief with the Friendship Volunteer Fire Department Friday night. Madison “Maddy” Lee Clinton Jr., 54, died after he was pinned when a porch roof collapsed, according to a post from the Oklahoma State Firefighters Association "Maddy was performing suppression operations on a structure fire located in the Friendship Fire Department response area North of Altus," Altus Fire Chief Kyle David shared in a statement posted on Facebook.

California fire chiefs seek $42 million cash infusion to bolster services, staffing

Fire officials on Tuesday will ask the Board of Supervisors to approve a $42 million annual plan calling for more firefighters and new fire stations to plug response holes in the county — with a recommendation of a half-cent countywide sales tax hike to voters next year to fund it. The plan would add about 175 paid firefighters, many of them paramedics, to bolster the county’s current paid firefighting force of 400.

Harassment, Bullying A Focus At World Firefighters Conference In Dallas

This year the association says it’s dedicated to addressing bullying and harassment within fire department ranks. Retired South Fulton, Georgia Fire Chief David Daniels is leading a task force on the issue at the conference.

For-Profit Firefighters Find Business In An At-Risk Oregon Community

No one was home at a house deep in the woods of Josephine County, Oregon. The people who live here had evacuated days ago along with hundreds of their neighbors. As flames from the Taylor Creek Fire got closer and closer, the firefighters showed up. They came to prepare for the worst so that if the wind picked up, they’d be ready to dash down the driveway and save this house, even if the forest burned around it.

Despite Texas law, firefighters denied workers comp for cancer treatment

Ribbon cutting held for new Eau Claire fire station

VIDEO: Community members gathered to celebrate the opening of a local fire station with a ribbon cutting. The ceremony for Eau Claire Fire Station 10 took place Friday morning on Malden Avenue. Fire Chief Chris Bell says it's a beautiful station with a lot more room. He says the new spot will also improve emergency response times.

Stevens Point apartment fire displaces one resident Saturday

Firefighters contained a fire to the apartment where it started early Saturday morning on Indiana Avenue. When the Stevens Point Fire Department arrived at 2601 Indiana Ave., Stevens Point, shortly after 3:30 a.m. Saturday, they found smoke coming from the roof on the north corner of the apartment building, according to the fire department.

La Crosse Fire Department responds to minor fire at UWL residence hall

The La Crosse Fire Department was dispatched Thursday night to a fire at Eagle Hall on the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse campus. The fire alarms triggered the response at 6:47 P.M. Firefighters encountered a moderate amount of smoke on the first floor. Fire Inspectors later determined that a floor fan that malfunctioned started the fire.

Tornado hits Deerfield business

The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down in the Village of Deerfield on Thursday, Aug. 9. Dane County Sheriff's Lt. Krista Ewers-Hayes said at approximately 3:52 p.m., a citizen called the Dane County Communications Center and reported a possible tornado touchdown near the business park in the Village of Deerfield.

But within the Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD), there's a support staff responsible for maintaining all the equipment firefighters depend on. For this week's Bubbler Talk — our series that allows you to ask WUWM questions about Milwaukee —questioner Jay Blanchett wanted to know about a special kind of fire truck: Why, since I’ve lived here for 22 years now, I have never seen a tiller truck in the Milwaukee area? While looking into Jay's question, we were able to learn about a whole, less publically known division of the fire department.

Fire officials say some residents have received letters asking them to volunteer for the fire department and to donate money. The letter claims to be from the “Hales Corners Area Volunteer Firefighter Drive”.

New Holstein Fire Department officials hand out checks to organizations

New Holstein Fire Department officials recently handed out checks to local organizations which assisted them with their recent Firemen’s Picnic. The New Holstein Boy Scouts do park clean-up and receive money from all the aluminum cans they collect—about 543 pounds this year. They also receive community service hours for assisting.
