Michigan teen files federal lawsuit over sex abuse by firefighters in Explorer mentor program

A young woman who was sexually abused in a mentor program at Cascade Township Fire Department has filed a federal lawsuit against the township and Boy Scouts of America. Two now-former Cascade Township firefighters - Clem Bell, 53, and Steven Drake, 34 - had relationships with the then-16-year-old girl and exchanged sexually explicit photographs and videos with her.

Fire Investigators Urged to Protect Health

The International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI) has released a white paper that covers best practices related to health and safety, particularly as it concerns cancer prevention. The white paper was put together by the IAAI Health and Safety Committee after it was re-established in 2016 when it was deemed that health and safety practices and protocols for investigators had not been keeping pace with those of firefighters.

Follow Up: West Allis Firefighter recognized for continuing CPR on woman while being attacked

VIDEO: A West Bend man is now charged after allegedly attacking an off-duty firefighter who was performing CPR on a woman. Robert Ryan, 32, is facing charges of Misdemeanor Battery, Obstruction of Emergency or Rescue Persons, and Disorderly Conduct. According to the criminal complaint, off-duty West Allis Firefighter Chad Staszak was performing CPR on an unresponsive woman at GERMANfest in West Bend on August 24.

Sauk Prairie area first responders aid neighbors during flooding

South Shore EMS station bids come in over budget

The bids to build the north side ambulance station in Mount Pleasant are in and the results are not what was anticipated. The village budgeted $500,000 to build the EMS (emergency medical services) station proposed just south of the intersection of Spring Street and Emmertsen Road, and officials were hoping to begin construction later this year.

Survive Alive House educates Fond du Lac area children on fire safety

The Francis & Ruth Oberreich Foundation purchased an inflatable Survive Alive House for Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue. The inflatable offers a realistic experience of a house fire. During demonstrations Tuesday, firefighters offered fifth graders fire safety tips while helping them navigate through the smoky home.

FDNY Remembers Firehouse that Lost 15 Members on 9/11

Pennsylvania city council members want mayor to reconsider fire patrols

Bells Across America for Fallen Firefighters Planned for Oct. 5-7

Since the early days of the fire service, bells have been used as a way to summon firefighters to a station, communicate the type of emergency, or announce the end of a shift. When a firefighter died in the line of duty, a special sequence of five bells was tapped. The tolling of bells is still a tradition to honor the fallen during funerals and memorial services for firefighters.

Washington fire department to launch low-acuity emergency response pilot program

Garage destroyed, structures damaged after fire breaks out in Fond du Lac

A garage was destroyed and several more structures were damaged following a fire on Tuesday evening. Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue crews were called to a home on Ruggles Street shortly after 6 p.m. for a report of a detached garage fire. Upon arrival fire crews reported smoke and fire showing from the exterior of the garage and fire beginning to burn the single family dwelling nearby.

Machine contributing to Janesville's impressive cardiac arrest survival rate

Due to staff shortage, there was only one Hales Corners firefighter on duty on Labor Day

The village had just one firefighter/emergency medical technician on duty to cover the entire community on Labor Day. It reflects a staffing problem that has been long in the making. Staffing is such a problem that some shifts were covered by only two firefighters in July, Fire Chief Martin Freibergs reported to the fire and police commission.

Firefighter treated for exertion after garage fire spreads to Appleton apartment

PHOTO: The Appleton Fire department was called to a early Tuesday morning garage fire that was attached to a three-unit apartment. Officials say the fire spread to the attic and second floor causing heavy damage. Only two-units were occupied when the fire broke out. Four adults and six children are without a home since the apartment is no longer inhabitable.

West Bend man charged with attacking off-duty West Allis firefighter

Robert Patrick Ryan, 32, is accused of striking the victim in the back of the head, who was in the middle of trying to save a woman's life. West Allis firefighter and EMT Chad Staszak explained he was at a music festival with family last month when he saw a woman collapse.

Madison paramedics deliver two babies in two days

Four paramedics and eight EMTs earned their stork pins last week as they helped deliver two newborn babies within two days. According to a release, a mother-to-be pulled over her minivan on the side of the road Thursday night when her baby was on the way and she couldn't make it to the hospital. Officials said Medic 3 and Engine Company 5 were sent to the intersection of East Washington Avenue and Highway 30.
