New York fire district votes to dissolve, sparks outcry

Town of Oneonta Fire District commissioners voted Thursday night 3 to 2 for dissolution, turning the job of negotiating a fire protection contract over to the Oneonta Town Board, which objects to the step. Illinois fire chief's retirement makes way for 24/7 operations

Kenosha: Fire on the 5300 block of 13th Avenue under investigation

An Uptown Brass neighborhood fire that started in a camper trailer behind a vacant commercial building in the 6300 block of 13th Avenue Wednesday evening is under investigation. Battalion chief Matthew Haerter said the fire started around 8 p.m. He said a fire that started in the camper spread to the roof of a nearby white concrete building, causing heavy damage to its first and second floors.

Evansville businesses let volunteer firefighters respond to calls during work day

In the small town of Evansville, many local businesses are making it easier for volunteer firefighters to respond to calls during the work day. The Evansville Community Fire District receives about 150 calls a year. When the station gets a call, all 35 volunteer firefighters receive a page. “Being able to have a job, a place of employment, that allows you to leave when the pagers go off is super important,” said Bill Castonguay, who has been an Evansville firefighter for 18 years and an EMT for nine.

Los Angeles Firefighters Injured after Roof Collapses at Raging Warehouse Fire

Houston mayor agrees to 7 percent raise for police weeks before fire pay vote

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner agreed to a 7 percent pay increase for police officers just weeks before a Houston referendum vote to determine whether firefighters deserve comparable pay for similar ranks. Turner announced some of the details of the pay raise at Wednesday's city council meeting. The two-year agreement with police will cost the city $52 million and goes into effect July 1, 2019.

‘Lengthy consecutive sentences’ sought for salon owner in deaths of 2 Missouri firefighters

Verizon denies allegations that it's throttling mobile data for Hurricane Florence victims

Pipe Pressure Before Massachusetts Gas Explosions Was 12 Times Too High
