Green Bay City Council approves 2019 budget with small tax increase, Station 7 ambulance

City officials scrounged up enough money Monday to ensure an ambulance for the northeast side can continue operating. The Green Bay City Council voted 8-4 to approve the 2019 budget in a tense, over four-hour meeting Monday night. The spending plan includes funding to staff an ambulance for the fire department's Station 7, at 3489 Humboldt Road, after a tight budget threatened to eliminate it altogether.

'It's devastating': Waubeka firefighters grieve loss of assistant chief

VIDEO: An Ozaukee County fire department is grieving the sudden loss of one of their leaders. Assistant fire chief Bruce Koehler of the Waubeka Fire Department was killed Friday night in a motorcycle crash. Koehler volunteered as the Waubeka firefighter for 35 years without making a dime. Those who served beside him say his dedication to the department was unmatched.

Madison fire officials unable to draw connection between practices, unexpected firefighter death

Racine police identify 71-year-old man found dead in home after fire

Racine police on Monday, Nov. 5 identified a 71-year-old man found dead in a home after a fire on Tuesday, Oct. 30. The fire happened in a home on Geneva Street near Hamilton Street, and the home was found fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. The home contained four units, and David Etter lived in one of them.

Appleton crews battle two garage fires

Mississippi firefighter killed in crash responding to fire

The cold and rainy night on Sunday seemed fitting in the town of Magee, given the sad and mournful emotion felt throughout the community, since Saturday's accident which killed 34-year-old volunteer firefighter Dustin Grubbs, while on his way to fight a structure fire. Retired Atlanta fire chief picked to lead Austin Fire Department

Austin City Manager Spencer Cronk has selected retired Atlanta Fire Chief Joel Baker to be the next head of the Austin Fire Department, replacing former Fire Chief Rhoda Mae Kerr, who retired this summer. Baker was selected from a pool of 84 candidates, who included finalists Laredo Fire Chief Steve Landin and Fire Chief Kevin McGee of Prince William County, Va.

California Fire Captain Dies After Being Struck by Suspected DUI Driver While Cycling

A Costa Mesa fire captain who was struck and critically injured in a crash involving a suspected DUI driver while cycling over the weekend has died, officials announced Monday. Costa Mesa Fire and Rescue Capt. Mike Kreza with was riding a bicycle shortly after 8 a.m. Saturday on Alicia Parkway near Via Burgos in Mission Viejo when he was struck by the driver of a van.

Pennsylvania Driver Fined for Running over Hose

The motorist who ran over a fire hose at the scene of an Oct. 23 house fire in Geistown is on the hook to pay for any damage to the hose and faces a fine of up to $300, authorities said. Fire broke out at 6 a.m. in the 200 block of Karen Way. A 4-inch, cotton sleeve, large-diameter hose was connected to a hydrant and laid across the road when a man driving an SUV ran over the hose.

Georgia firefighters group raises concerns about safety

The Augusta Fire Department has been sent at least three letters of complaint from the local firefighters association stating concerns about safety. The letters by the Augusta Professional Firefighters Association Local 3357 have been sent since Sept. 21. An additional letter was sent by the International Association of Fire Fighters complaining about the way the city of Augusta has attempted to suppress the organization’s voice.

Racine Fire, hospital forming home visit program

Suamico Fire Receives Critical Training

Area firefighters received some critical, life saving training Saturday morning. The Suamico Fire Department held a training burn at a house on East Deerfield Drive. The department released video on their Facebook Page Saturday of the final controlled burn down of the home. Officials say the exercise is a live drill that allowed the firefighters to practice extinguishing fires.

Custer area house fire under investigation

Several area fire departments responded to a house fire Friday morning near Custer. The home is located on the 6900 block of Esker Road in the Town of Stockton. Crews from the Town of Stockton, Park Ridge, Amherst and Plover all responded to the scene. Portage County ambulance and the Portage County Sheriff's Department also responded.

Warrant: Gas line that caused explosion killing Wisconsin firefighter wasn't correctly marked

A contractor that specializes in locating and marking underground utilities to prevent accidents failed to properly mark a natural gas line that was struck by a communications construction firm, which led to a massive explosion in downtown Sun Prairie in July that killed a fire department captain, according to a search warrant unsealed in Dane County Circuit Court.

With demotion pending, Ohio assistant fire chief weighs in on changes at fire department
