Off-duty FDNY firefighter dies in road-rage attack

A minor traffic dispute turned deadly for an off-duty firefighter Sunday when he and another driver pulled off the road to sort it out and the raging motorist killed him, law-enforcement sources said. The fatal dust-up occurred as 33-year-old Bravest Faizal Coto was headed eastbound on the Belt Parkway near Bay 8th Street in Bath Beach around 4:45 a.

Michigan firefighters battle fire at own station; 3 firefighters injured

The Blissfield Township Fire Department caught on fire around 6:30 this morning. According to the Blissfield Fire Chief Dale Fruchui, there was heavy smoke and fire in the attic and in the truck bay. Riga, Palmyra, Deerfield and Madison Township Fire Departments were called to assist. Three firefighters were transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation, but we're told they're okay.

Misplacement of woman's remains could be detrimental to Wind Lake Fire Company

A local volunteer fire company may be forced to pay a potentially detrimental $80,000 bill after alleged mistakes outside the control of the company prevented an insurance company from covering the cost of rabies shots for six emergency responders. In late June or early July (the exact date has not been shared with The Journal Times), the Wind Lake Volunteer Fire Company reported that six emergency medical technicians responded to reports of a crashed vehicle near the intersection of Highway K and North Beaumont Avenue in the Town of Norway.

Milwaukee Fire Department firefighter injured after fire on city’s south side

PHOTO: One firefighter was injured after a fire broke out inside a home near Whitnall and Pine Avenue on Milwaukee’s south side early Sunday, Dec. 9. According to fire officials, a chimney fire extended into the surrounding walls of the home. The family was able to make it out before crews arrived. One firefighter suffered a cut and was transported to the hospital, where the firefighter was treated and released.

'Hoarder' fire destroys Grafton condo

A Grafton condominium owner was displaced after the fire chief said hoarding made it much more difficult to put out flames that broke out Thursday night. Chief William Rice said his crews responded to a possible garage fire around 6 p.m, and when they arrived at the four-family unit, the fire had spread to the alley, and then to a car parked out front.

Dump truck catches fire on Highway 29 in Marathon

A dump truck is a total loss after it caught fire Friday morning on the eastbound shoulder of Highway 29 at Purple Martin Lane in the Village of Marathon. Marathon fire chief Mike Tylinski tells NewsChannel 7 the truck was engulfed with flames when his team arrived just after 8 a.m. Tylinski says the cause is undetermined but a mechanical issue is likely to blame.

Mysterious firefighter contract change costly for Rhode Island city

An unauthorized practice has overpaid retiring Warwick firefighters for accumulations of vacation time since 2015, a Providence Journal investigation shows. Asked about documents and information developed by The Journal, Mayor Joseph J. Solomon said Friday he was ordering a halt to the practice. Solomon accused his predecessor, Mayor Scott Avedisian, of signing a contract document that enhanced the vacation perk even though the change was never approved by the City Council, as required.

FDNY Chief relieved of duties over alleged 'inappropriate behavior,' will fight for his job: sources

Crews battle structure fire in Fitchburg

Report of gas smells prevents potential home explosion in Ellison Bay

A person passing by the area of Mink River Road reported a strong smell of gas before 9 a.m. on Thursday, November 29. Dogs rescued from crates when fire breaks out inside Madison home

Rice Lake factory fire extinguished early Thursday morning

A fire broke out early Thursday morning at a Rice Lake factory. The Rice Lake Fire Department got a report of a structure fire at about 2:04 a.m. at American Excelsior, 831 Pioneer Ave. When firefighters arrived, moderate smoke was coming from one end of the building. Firefighters entered the building and used foam to extinguish the fire.

Hartford couple loses everything in overnight house fire

A Hartford couple lost everything they own in an early morning house fire. Hartford Fire officials say they received the call just after 1:30 Thursday morning about the fire on East Summer Street that they say started in the basement. Officials say when firefighters arrived on scene they found heavy fire in the basement that extended up through the walls of the home.
