There was a milestone for the FDNY Wednesday.
It promoted 80 members of the department, including the first African American to make deputy chief in 30 years.
Malcolm Moore is one of 12 battalion chiefs promoted to deputy chief at a ceremony in Brooklyn.
Moore is a 22 year veteran with the fire department, serving as chief of special operations command at rescue battalion.

On a recent night when an earthquake rattled York County, prompting calls to 911, Dover Township firefighters overheard dispatchers sending police to a reported house explosion with fire in their coverage area.

A 1948 Mack Fire Truck was the first fire truck purchased by the Hominy Fire Department, 72 years ago.
It needs some costly repairs, but a Sand Springs body shop is offering to restore the truck for less, to make sure it lives on for many more years.

For Adam Blaskowski of the Wheaton Fire Department, Tuesday night was a long one.
He got the tornado warning alert on his phone, posted to the fire department's Facebook page, and then quickly took his dogs and went into his basement.

Two people were injured from a garage fire Thursday evening, according to Green Bay Metro Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to report of smoke and fire in a garage on Green Bay's west side at around 6:17 p.m. Thursday on Nelson Street. The crews quickly extinguished the fire in under 5 minutes.

An Armenia firefighter and first responder volunteer is on life support as a result of severe injuries sustained in a Wood County ATV crash.
Josh Doherty, 27, of Nekoosa was ejected from his ATV in a crash Sept. 22. Doherty, an organ donor, will remain on life support while waiting for the recipients of his organs to be ready.

A driver crashed a car into a senior apartment complex in Kaukauna Thursday morning, At about 6:05 a.m., police and firefighters were called to a crash at Canal Place Senior Apartments, 137 E Wisconsin Av.
Emergency responders found the car well inside the apartment unit and the driver trapped.
"When we arrived on scene we noticed that a Ford Taurus had driven about 20 feet inside an apartment building and the patient was still trapped and injured in the car.

Firefighters were called to the home located at 619 S. University Drive around 5:05 Thursday a.m.

A De Pere couple escapes a house fire early Thursday morning. De Pere Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Eric Johnson spoke with Action 2 News on the scene.
He says neighbors spotted the fire at the house on the corner Talbot Avenue and Ridgeway Boulevard just before 1:00 a.m.
The neighbors pounding on the door and the home's ringing smoke detectors alerted the couple in the home and they got out safely before fire crews arrived.

When the Princeton Fire Department sounded the alarm for more volunteers, Princeton University responded to the call. In fact, University employees have responded to nearly 1,950 fire and rescue calls over the past 10 years as part of a unique partnership.

Oak Brook’s police and fire chiefs explained Tuesday that the village’s daytime population doesn’t directly impact their determinations of staffing needs, comments that came after a preliminary report from a village committee questioned the number that has been used for several years.

Berkeley County’s sheriff says a man who was a junior at Macedonia High School has been charged in the burning of the school 23 years after the night it burned down.
Daniel Scott Harris, 40, is charged with second-degree arson and second-degree burglary, Sheriff Duane Lewis said. Harris was arrested Tuesday night.

A person is accused of attacking a firefighter Wednesday morning, according to a media release from Green Bay Metro Fire Department.
At around 10:40 a.m., the release said a Green Bay Metro Fire Department Lieutenant saw a person walking in the intersection of Broadway and Dousman streets. Out of concern for his safety, the Lieutenant approached the person and tried to convince him to move to the sidewalk.

Federal officials are recommending stronger nationwide requirements for natural gas systems following last September’s natural gas explosions and fires in Massachusetts.
