Kenosha Fire crews are investigating a fire that displaced a Kenosha family this week.
The flames broke out around 9 PM Monday at a four unit home on 53rd Street and 25th Avenue.
The blaze was contained to a third floor bedroom and began accidentally.
Guy Santelli with the Kenosha Fire Prevention and Safety Bureau told WLIP’s Wake Up Kenosha that a possibility frayed extension cord that was left under a mattress may be the culprit.

More than 100 Wisconsin firefighters and emergency responders lobbied for a bill Wednesday that they say will save lives.
The bill would remove barriers for public safety officers to get worker’s compensation for post-traumatic stress disorder.
Because of a 1974 Supreme Court decision, to get worker’s compensation, public safety officers must demonstrate a PTSD diagnosis based on extraordinary stress above what is usually experienced by others on the job.

Those interested in learning more about the operation of the Asheboro Fire Department will soon be able to with the introduction of the department’s Ride-Along Program.
Lt. Jason Joines says the program, which has never before been offered by the Asheboro Fire Department (AFD), is open to any interested individuals, but that it’s aimed towards those who might be considering a career as a firefighter.

Even in its earliest days, before the dawn of the 20th century, Butte had experienced tragedy.
Six men died in a fire in the Anaconda Mine on Nov. 23, 1889. Fire swept through the Silver Bow Mine on April 21, 1893, leaving nine dead.
But “Butte’s Night of Horror,” which occurred 125 years ago, was on an entirely different scale.

Crash scenes are becoming more dangerous for emergency responders.
Seven of them have been killed in the U.S. in just the first two weeks of the year.
Fond du Lac Fire Chief Peter O’Leary says they now send an extra truck to act as a barricade for paramedics and firefighters. He says they used to try to keep as many lanes open as possible, but now they’re more conscious about safety.

More than 100 firefighters are pushing state legislators to offer them and law enforcement more help when it comes to mental health treatment.
A bill in the State Senate would make it easier for firefighters and law enforcement officers to receive workers compensation to treat PTSD.

Firefighters on Wednesday morning, Jan. 15 were called out to the scene of a house fire near Elizabeth and Oak in Oconomowoc. The call came in around 1:20 a.m.
Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke coming from the front and back of the home. The fire was discovered in the basement -- and extended to the first floor.

A fire at a Green Bay paper converting facility caused an estimated quarter-of-a-million dollars in damage Tuesday night.
At about 10 p.m., Green Bay Metro Firefighters were called to a fire at Sofidel America, 2200 Larsen Road.
"Upon arrival crews found a large portion of the approximately 1,000,000 square foot warehouse heavily charged with smoke," reads a statement from Battalion Chief Tony Piontek.

VIDEO: Dozens of people at seven schools in the Los Angeles area were treated for minor injuries after a plane with mechanical issues dumped a load of jet fuel while returning to LAX for an emergency landing on Tuesday, officials said.
The incident was initially reported shortly before noon at Park Avenue Elementary School in the 8000 block of Park Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The town of Wiscasset has been fined $1,000 after its fire department violated air quality rules and created a public safety threat when it burned the old Huber’s Market on Route 1.
In a memo dated Jan. 3, the Maine Department of Environmental Protection said the Wiscasset Fire Department failed to remove waste material prior to the burn, did not investigate if asbestos or lead paint was present, did not have a written training plan and created a “nuisance and public safety threat” during the demolition of the Huber’s Market building.

First responders in Augusta County are working with county officials to come up with an insurance plan that offers better coverage for volunteer firefighters.
Volunteer and career firefighters are held to the same standards of training and certifications but do not receive the same coverage if they are hurt or fall ill on the job.

Sue Gormly stood outside her father’s house on Mitchell’s Lane on Monday morning, surrounded by sweeping fields, and complained of the lack of fire hydrants in the immediate vicinity.
Gormly questioned what her family would do if her father’s barn were to catch fire and the Middletown Fire Department’s tanker truck wasn’t available to respond “because they don’t have the manpower to use it,” she said.

One person died after a fire broke out at a Neillsville house.
Neillsville Fire Department says a neighbor called at 2:59 a.m. and the house was fully engulfed. The fire was put out in 20 minutes and nothing suspicious has been found at this point.
A body was located and officials are working to remove it.

Members of the Oshkosh Fire Department might wear bulletproof vests to their calls.
City Manager Mark Rohloff says the unfortunate reality is that firefighters and paramedics are regularly entering dangerous situations. He says around the same time Appleton firefighter Mitch Lundgaard was shot and killed on a medical call, the city was already buying 10 bulletproof vests for their ambulances.

Charleston Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin took steps Monday to correct the way firefighters in the city have been paid for holidays since 2012.
A $1.7 million-dollar agreement has been reached between the City of Charleston and the firefighters union.
Mayor Goodwin was joined by Myron Boggess of Charleston Professional Firefighters Local 317 to announce the agreement that addresses back-payment discrepancies.
