Man, 83, struck by vehicle before 3 fires set in Waukesha

An 83-year-old man was struck by a vehicle and three fires were set Wednesday morning, Sept. 2 in Waukesha. It happened shortly after Waukesha police said a female was set on fire -- and there was a second "suspicious fire" a short time later. The incidents prompted a "lockout" at Waukesha schools, and Waukesha police said they were working to determine whether the two incidents were linked.

ATF searching for 7 'persons of interest' in connection to Kenosha arson investigations

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, alongside other law enforcement agencies, is searching for seven ‘persons of interest’ in connection with multiple fires set during the civil unrest in Kenosha. Videos and photos shared by the ATF on Wednesday show several individuals who officials believe played a roll in setting fire to buildings and vehicles throughout Kenosha.

New York firefighters save woman with heroic, rare rope rescue during high-rise fire

VIDEO: The FDNY put a rarely used maneuver into action to save a woman who was hanging from a 16th-floor window during a high-rise fire in Manhattan. The fire was reported Tuesday near Lenox Avenue and West 135th Street just before 1:30 p.m. Firefighters found a woman panicking at a window on the 16th floor of the Lenox Terrace Apartments and decided to do something they rarely do -- a roof rope rescue from the 17th floor.

10 Florida firefighters sue after cargo ship fire, explosion

Three months after one of the biggest ship fires in decades in Jacksonville, 10 firefighters injured in a related blast are suing for their injuries. The law firm Pajcic & Pajcic filed a lawsuit on behalf of 10 Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department employees on Tuesday, 90 days after an explosion that severely injured some of them.

Majority Of Hurricane Laura Deaths in Louisiana Linked To Improper Use Of Portable Generators

And officials warn that the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning persists, as thousands of households in Louisiana remain without power. Eight of the 15 hurricane-related deaths confirmed by the Louisiana Department of Health are attributed to carbon monoxide poisoning from portable generators, which can provide life-saving power in emergency situations but also pose a deadly threat if used incorrectly.

Germantown firefighters rescued 'spooked' horse trapped in trailer

Germantown fire officials on Tuesday morning, Sept. 1 rescued a horse that was apparently spooked by something and ended up becoming trapped in a trailer. According to a post on the Germantown Fire Department's Facebook page, the incident occurred shortly before 8 a.m. The horse, while attempting to break free, fell on its side between two of the permanent retaining dividers within the trailer -- becoming stuck.

Wisconsin firefighters ride 183 miles in honor of late firefighter

Largest minority class set to join ranks of New York fire department

The Rochester Fire Department is expecting to welcome the largest minority group of new firefighters to its ranks during a graduation ceremony at 10 a.m. Sept. 2. Of the 30 recruits on schedule to graduate, 13 are Black, 9 are Latino and one is Asian. Two are female, including one Latina. The minority candidates comprise about 80 percent of the class.

New Restrictions On PFAS-containing Firefighting Foams Effective Sept. 1

Ceiling Collapses on Ambulance at Houston Fire Station, Union President Claims Neglect

County worker killed, 3 firefighters injured in Florida sidewalk collapse

North Carolina fire station to get bulletproof walls after shots fired into building

Following two shootings in a little more than two months, an Elizabeth City fire station is on track to get bulletproof walls. Shots were most recently fired July 15 near the station on Harney Street, which is manned 24-hours a day. At least one round went through a wall, into its sleeping and eating areas.
