Superior fire department gets $50,000 grant from Husky

The Superior fire department was given a big gift this week. Husky Refinery in Superior donated $50,000 dollars to the fire department to help buy a new tower truck for the station.Though talks about funding the truck came before the refinery explosion in 2018, Fire chief Scott Gordon says having a truck like this would have been helpful in an incident like the refinery's.

One person presumed injured following vehicle fire on I-90 in Madison

Firefighters responded to a vehicle fire on westbound I-90 Thursday around 2:30 a.m., a release said. According to the release, a vehicle crashed and one person was seen walking away with a head injury. The car was fully engulfed in flames when Engine Co. 8 arrived. The flames from the car extended to the grass and a nearby tree, the release said.

Oregon State University Study: Firefighters exposed to more potentially harmful chemicals than previously thought

A new Oregon State University study suggests that firefighters are more likely to be exposed to potentially harmful chemicals while on duty compared to off duty. The on-duty firefighters in the Kansas City, Missouri, area experienced higher exposures of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, or PAHs, which are a family of chemicals that are known to have the potential to cause cancer.

D.C. firefighters attacked while trying to put out a fire

Fire training session in Fall Creek

It was back to class for some area firefighters Wednesday night in Fall Creek. Fire & Industrial Response Enterprises - or FIRE - hosted an emergency response, live propane fire training session. Roughly 50 firefighters from the Fall Creek Fire Department and surrounding areas took part. Foundation pushes for new firefighter gear to deal with increasing violence, riots in Washington State

Former director of CDC: COVID-19 Now the 3rd Leading Cause of U.S. Deaths

Firefighters from throughout Milwaukee metro area called to large brush fire in Germantown

Firefighters from four counties were called to the scene of a large brush fire northeast of Pilgrim and Mequon roads on Tuesday afternoon. The fire was originally reported as an all-terrain vehicle on fire in a field near Vicksburg Avenue and Potomac Circle in Germantown. The first Germantown fire crews to arrive reported that the fire had spread beyond the ATV into a brushy area that included a cattail swamp, and that gaining access to the fire was going to be difficult, according to emergency radio traffic provided by Broadcastify.

US COVID-19 cases drop, but schools, nursing homes still a problem

On Aug. 17, the United States recorded its fewest COVID-19 cases in nearly 2 months, with 35,112 new cases and 445 deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins University tracker. The new cases raise the total to 5,469,604 cases and 171,344 deaths. Though the decrease in cases is a sign that early summer hot spots, including Arizona, Texas, and Florida, are showing falling case counts, reports from schools that have opened across the country, as well as nursing home data, show congregate living is still a major contributor to COVID-19 outbreaks.

Grand Chute Town Board approves fire department referendum

The Grand Chute Fire Department announced on Tuesday the Town Board has unanimously voted to move forward with a referendum on the November ballot seeking a levy limit increase to fund nine additional firefighter/paramedic positions. Fire officials says this referendum was proposed after extensive discussion and careful evaluation of the current and future public safety needs within the Town of Grand Chute.
