Dashboard tracks COVID-19 in North Carolina firefighters and EMTs

In the public safety world, they are known as LODDs -- line of duty deaths. And now the biggest cause of those deaths in public safety jobs isn't from rushing into burning buildings or getting shot, it is from COVID-19. That's why researchers in the Triangle have developed a way to track coronavirus infections in the public safety group most likely to get them -- firefighters and emergency medical technicians.

Ohio city rolls out pilot program to deal with mental health crisis-intervention calls

A pilot program could leave first responders better equipped with additional training, tools and resources to handle the steady volume of mental health-related calls that come through emergency dispatch. After months of discussions that included behavioral health professionals and the safety forces, City Council put $100,000 into this year’s budget for a “hybrid” Crisis Response Pilot Program.

Crews battle fire at Blessed Savior Church in Milwaukee

It's been a busy winter for Milwaukee firefighters, and they were called out again Monday afternoon, Feb. 15. They battled the bitter cold while fighting a fire at Blessed Savior Church at 86th and Villard. The fire started on the second floor in an office area. As you can imagine, the cold and snow made the response much more difficult.

Portage fire chief wants more firefighters, increased training under his leadership

Neighbor clears way for firefighters to battle Sun Prairie blaze

Beaver Dam Fire Department making hires following referendum

The Beaver Dam Fire Department is starting to make its promised hires after voters approved a referendum in November. Beaver Dam voters approved a referendum 66 percent to 34 percent to cover six new full-time firefighter/paramedic positions, with a tax impact of $37 on a $100,000 house in the first year.

Racine house caught on fire after woman heated rubbing alcohol to melt ice on her car

A Racine home was caught on fire after a woman heated rubbing alcohol on the stove to use it to melt the ice on her car Sunday morning, Feb. 14. The Racine Fire Department was dispatched to a home in the 300 block of Luedtke Avenue just before 6:30 a.m. Upon arrival, fire officials found the occupants on the front porch trying to extinguish articles from inside the home that were on fire.

Fire crews in Antigo battled a fire overnight at Dejno's

In Kansas Town, This Museum Tells The Stories Of The City's Firefighters

40 years later: Remembering the Las Vegas Hilton Fire

Three people have died in fires on Milwaukee's south side; two did not have working smoke detectors

Reedsburg teen accused of setting house on fire, arrested in Madison

VIDEO: The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office said a 17-year-old boy was arrested in another county following a house fire in Reedsburg. Emergency crews were notified about the fire Wednesday at a home along State Highway 154 in the town of Reedsburg. Everyone inside the home was able to evacuate safely, but pets were still inside when firefighters arrived, according to a release by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office.

Wausau firefighters battle structure fire

‘People Didn’t Want To Leave’: Firefighters Battle Massive Fire At Massachusetts Condo Complex

As firefighters poured water on the smoldering brick shell on Swanson Road, one longtime resident stood nearby in shock. “I’ve lived there for 45 years, so there’s a lot of memories there,” one woman said. It was just after five o’clock when firefighters responding to a call for smoke in the attic were greeted by an inferno.
