Florida department defends decision to not respond to fire, says it might happen again

Liberty Volunteer Fire District Assistant Chief Tony Roy isn’t apologizing for ordering a tanker truck to not respond to a Walton County Fire Rescue call for assistance fighting a house fire. The county should have anticipated the reaction, Roy said, and unless it decides to start sending some money Liberty’s way, can expect more of the same in the future.

Fire chief: Fighting blaze at Illinois station an 'emotional experience'

Clad in blue jeans and hooded sweatshirts, Stockton firefighters today battled a blaze that hit them where they live. A witness reported seeing smoke coming from the village’s fire station around 11 a.m. Within minutes, volunteer firefighters were on scene and emergency responders from nearby agencies had been called to help save the headquarters of the Stockton Fire Department.

Tennessee firefighter falls through attic battling house fire

A veteran firefighter is recovering today from injuries he received early Thursday while battling a house fire in Tullahoma, Tenn. At 2:50 a.m. Thursday, firefighters found light smoke coming from the home at 309 Decherd Street, Tullahoma Fire Chief Richard Shasteen said in a statement on the incident.

DC fire lieutenant charged with neglect of duty fails to show at disciplinary hearing

Inmate firefighter critically injured battling California brush fire

A female inmate firefighter was critically injured after being struck in the head by a boulder while battling a 7-acre brush fire in Malibu Thursday morning, authorities said. Crews were seen performing life-saving measures until a Los Angeles County Fire helicopter arrived and airlifted the injured firefighter to a local hospital.

Ex-firefighter gets 5 years in prison for setting California wildfires

A firefighter who admitted setting dozens of fires in an attempt to earn overtime pay and impress his peers was sentenced Tuesday to five years in prison for arson, the U.S. attorney said. Benjamin Cunha, 33, of Placerville (El Dorado County), pleaded guilty in October in U.S District Court in Sacramento to one count of arson for lighting the 80-acre Mine Fire in 2007 while he was a volunteer firefighter in Diamond Springs, near his home.

Two Georgia firefighters arrested in theft from accident scene investigation

Off-duty Ohio firefighter died running into traffic

The Canton woman who died Monday running into rush hour traffic on Ohio 8 after arguing with her husband was identified as an off-duty Canton firefighter. Tonya Johnson, 43, of Canton, died about 4 p.m. Monday after being hit by a pickup on the busy highway. The Summit County Medical Examiner is performing an autopsy Tuesday.

West Virginia Volunteer Fire Department adds ‘In God We Trust’ to fire trucks

Bramwell Volunteer Fire Department added the phrase “In God We Trust” to their fire trucks Saturday afternoon during a fundraising event. Bramwell Volunteer Fire Department 3rd Lt. Steve Mitchell attended the fundraiser and ATV washing event. “We decided we were going to put it on our trucks and hope to be the first one in the area to (put it on the fire trucks),” Mitchell said.
