On Jan. 22, the city of Snoqualmie, which provides information technology services to King County Fire Protection District 45, paid a ransom of $750 to hackers who had taken control and encrypted files on a computer at the fire district.

Robert Cabano was the first on the scene at 155 Marcy Street in West Babylon at around 10 p.m. last Friday night following a report of a person in cardiac arrest at the home.

While reporting on the fire for Oklahoma City's KWTV station, storm trackers Amy and Val Castor saw a road grader traveling in the path of the quick-moving flames. Val Castor said the driver would have no chance to escape the vehicle before the flames reached him, so he drove near the vehicle and urged the driver to jump in their car.

A former Collierville firefighter has filed a federal lawsuit against the town, alleging he lost his job for raising concerns that then-chief Jerry Crawford discriminated in favor of people with ties to Fayette County, where he has long lived.
William L. Boone filed the suit on March 25. He's seeking back pay and other money damages, but wrote in the suit that a return to his job isn't feasible.

While Union County authorities have charged Newark fire Capt. Anthony Graves with impersonating a police officer, Newark officials are calling on a judge to throw out his whistleblower lawsuit against the city and various municipal officials.

A child is dead after an accident Sunday involving a fire truck on Mississippi 43 in Rankin County.
Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Cpl. Eric Henry said a Lake Harbor Volunteer Fire Department tanker truck collided with a Ford Escape sometime before 2:45 p.m. Two firefighters were in the tanker truck, and a mother, father and their three children were in the vehicle.

The Houston Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its own after a cadet collapsed and died Thursday morning during a training exercise.
Steven Whitfield II, 32, was participating in an obstacle course when he collapsed near the end, according to firefighters. Authorities said other cadets and instructors on the course noticed Whitfield was in trouble and quickly rescued him.

A Providence fire captain remains hospitalized after battling a massive fire on Eaton Street Thursday afternoon.
The flames started at a triple-decker home near Providence College and quickly spread to nearby homes.
Heavy winds fueled the flames and the home was engulfed before crews arrived.
Captain Joseph Fontaine was taken to Roger Williams Medical Center but has since been transferred to Rhode Island Hospital.
