Fire causes minor damage at Eau Claire dorm

Residents had to be evacuated for a time, but only minor damage was reported at a dormitory fire early Thursday morning at UW-Eau Claire. According to the Eau Claire Fire Department: The fire was reported at 12:11 a.m. at Oakridge Hall, 810 University Drive. Firefighters arrived to find smoke and heat conditions in the basement trash area.

One hurt in Manitowoc kitchen fire

One person was hurt during a kitchen fire in Manitowoc early Thursday. At 1:08 a.m., the Manitowoc Fire Rescue Department was called to a residence in the 2300 block of Paul Rd. They arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the building. The occupants were able to escape. One resident was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation and a burn to the arm.

Merrill Fire Department keeping their skills sharp with specialized training

The Merrill Fire Department held a three-day training workshop specializing in confined space accidents. Accidents are high-risk, low-volume situations. The Occupational Health and Safety Administration said there is an average of 92 deaths per year with confined space accidents, so the Merrill Fire Department is making sure they’re ready when those accidents happen.

Fox Valley fire departments team up, create joint recruit academy

Multiple fire departments in the Fox Valley are teaming up to train new recruits together. Nineteen firefighter recruits from three different departments are spending weeks together, taking their training to new heights through a joint academy. Neenah-Menasha, Oshkosh, and the Grand Chute Fire Departments are currently in week three of the roughly month-long training program.

Tomahawk Fire Department honors three members

Three members of the Tomahawk Fire Department were honored recently. Captain Lance Powers celebrated 35 years of service this year, while Firefighter Taylor Randall was recognized for ten years of service. Firefighter/Secretary Melissa Nieman was named Firefighter of the Year.

Student who caused fire at Viterbo University is released with a signature bond

The student who caused a fire at a Viterbo University residence hall is released with a signature bond. According to the police report, student Victoria Unanka was arrested on charges of arson and negligent handling of burning materials. Officers reviewed university security cameras, where footage shows Unanka last in the lounge before the fire started.

Crews investigate fire at Edgewater Power Plant

No injuries were reported following a fire at Sheboygan’s Edgewater Power Plant Tuesday morning. According to Sheboygan Fire Department, crews were called to the plant just before 11 a.m. When they arrived, they found smoke coming from the plant’s dust-collector, and were met by members of the Edgewater Fire Brigade.

Private ambulance company seeks to end 911 agreement with city of Milwaukee

One of the private ambulance companies that help cover 911 calls is seeking an end to its agreement with the city. Midwest Medical Transportation Company, which owns the private ambulance company Paratech, sent a letter to the Milwaukee Fire Chief stating its intent to terminate its 911 agreement with the city.

Student arrested after intentionally setting off garbage fire at Viterbo University Video

The La Crosse Fire Department says a Viterbo University student was arrested for intentionally starting a fire at a residence hall. Fire officials say they were dispatched for a fire alarm at Marian Hall early Sunday morning. A garbage can was on fire on the second-floor lounge and had been put out with a fire extinguisher.

Fire guts 2-story home in Tichigan; no working smoke detectors

Fire gutted a home in Tichigan early Monday, April 19. A post on the Tichigan Volunteer Fire Department Facebook page says firefighters were dispatched to the home shortly before 3 a.m. Monday. When they arrived, they found the second floor engulfed in flames. Firefighters had the fire under control around 4 a.

Madison apartment complex near Beltline evacuated for high levels of carbon monoxide

A 24-unit apartment complex off the Beltline was evacuated Sunday because of high levels of carbon monoxide. Madison fire officials said firefighters were dispatched to 213 West Beltline Highway just before 2 p.m. after MG&E detected elevated levels of the deadly gas while on a service call. Firefighters confirmed carbon monoxide levels above 200 parts per million in the boiler room and levels in the high 80s ppm in some hallways.

Nonprofit organization that connects veterans and first responders with the outdoors has a new home in Delafield

Wisconsin Hero Outdoors, a nonprofit organization that aims to heal veterans and first responders by connecting them to the outdoors, finally has a place it can call home. In late March, the Delafield Town Board approved a three-year lease for the organization, which has roots that date to 2016, to reside at the former Fire Station No.

99-year-old retired Eau Claire firefighter receives birthday drive-by parade

Four generations of family, ringing in retired firefighter Bob Anderson’s 99 years of life. “Happy birthday,” shouts four-year-old granddaughter, Claira. Barn fire in Albion considered total loss

Firefighters responded to a barn fire Sunday morning in Albion. According to the Dane County Sheriff’s Office a controlled burn was happening behind the barn when the wind shifted causing the empty barn to catch fire. Fire departments from Edgerton, Ft. Atkinson, Cottage Grove, Janesville and Milton responded to the fire at 10:30 Sunday morning.

Fire, explosions damage campers, sheds at Huckleberry Acres Campground in New London

Firefighters dealt with flames and explosions as four campers, two sheds and a pickup truck were damaged or destroyed by a fire at Huckleberry Acres Campground Friday afternoon. The fire department responded to a call of a fire at the campground six miles south of New London and called for backup from neighboring departments as they arrived to heavy black smoke.

Police: 4 dogs die in fire on Milwaukee's south side

Four chihuahuas died in a house fire on Milwaukee's south side Thursday evening, April 15, police said. The fire happened near 5th Place and Becher Street -- a few blocks east of Kosciuszko Park -- around 6:30 p.m. Police said the fire appears to be accidental and may have started in the home's kitchen.
