5 people displaced in Madison house fire that needed thousands of gallons to extinguish

Five people were displaced from their west side residence Monday morning after a fire broke out and spread through the entire home. Firefighters were dispatched to the 6300 block of Hartford Drive around 8:30 a.m. after getting multiple 911 calls. When crews arrived at the scene, they found the house fully engulfed in flames.

3 uninjured in Whitewater plane crash

Three people escaped injury when an airplane made a crash landing in the Kettle Moraine State Forest in Whitewater. As of Monday, May 17, the aircraft remained suspended, stuck in trees high above the ground. A parachute likely helped save the three survivors dangling from branches just feet away. "When we found out that all three were alive and uninjured, none of us could believe it at first," said Whitewater Assistant Fire Chief Joe Uselding.

Police say Green Bay 'serial arsonist' admits to rash of fires, thefts from storage units, mailboxes

A Green Bay man was charged with setting vehicles and trailers on fire and stealing from storage units in Brown and Oconto counties. Police said Thomas L. Smith, 58, was a "serial arsonist" based on his involvement in multiple fires in Ohio and Wisconsin dating as far back as the 1980s, according to a criminal complaint.

La Crosse Firefighters rescue fallen biker from Grandad Bluff

La Crosse Fire Department rescue crews pulled a fallen biker off a trail just after 8 p.m. Saturday. According to a release from Battalion Chief Bee Xiong, crews found the biker and brought the person to safety to a parking area with technical rope rescue equipment. Fire crews were on scene for approximately 1 1/2 hours during the rescue incident.

Appleton remembers two-year anniversary of fallen firefighter Mitch Lundgaard

It's been two years since an Appleton firefighter was killed in the line of duty. Though time has passed, the Appleton community still remembers the service and life of firefighter Mitch Lundgaard. "Mitch was actually going to school to be an architect that was his calling and then after September 11th and he saw the noble sacrifice of the 343 firefighters from the FDNY.

Janesville porch fire leads to $100K in damages

A porch fire in Janesville caused an estimated $100,000 in damages early Saturday morning. Officials were sent to 411 Wilson Avenue at 3:38 a.m. for a report of a residential fire on the porch. Crews arrived and found a fully involved porch with “significant” fire extending into the house and to a vehicle parked nearby.

Duplex fire in La Crosse claims lives of three dogs, families displaced

Aduplex fire Thursday evening killed three pets and left the residents displaced. The La Crosse Fire Department was dispatched to a fire at 6:44 p.m. with the first crew arriving at 6:47 p.m. at 903 Tyler St., finding smoke coming from the two-story duplex. The fire was put out by 6:56 p.m. None of the duplex residents were home at the time of the fire but three dogs were found in the dwelling.

Fire at Milwaukee recycling facility, no injuries reported

VIDEO: Firefighters on Thursday, May 13 responded to a fire at Alter Metal Recycling near 16th and Bruce on Milwaukee's south side. A police officer on patrol called in the fire. Officials say a rubbish pile was the cause of the fire. The fire was contained in less than an hour. Authorities say they get called out to the plant for rubbish piles like this around two to three times a year.

'Careless use of fireworks' blamed for fire in two-family Racine home

"Careless use of fireworks" was the cause of a Thursday afternoon fire on the 1000 block of Blake Avenue, the Racine Fire Department is reporting. According to the RFD, firefighters responded to a two-family home at about 2:17 p.m. Thursday where flames could be seen coming out of the roof's east side.

Wisconsin at high risk for wildfires as state remains dry

Milwaukee ambulance companies struggle to recruit qualified EMTs

Milwaukee's private ambulance providers are facing a staffing dilemma, struggling to hire people to man the ambulances, and the effects are spilling over into the 911 system. One private ambulance company, Paratech owned by Midwest Medical, is pulling out of the city's 911 agreement with the private providers, citing staffing issues as a factor in its decision.

Brown County Arson Suspect Facing Numerous Charges

Charges were filed against the suspect in a fire at a storage unit which prosecutors said caused about $400,000 damage to the facility and contents — and more charges are forthcoming. Greenville: Fox Valley Technical College and ATW show off ATW Airport Rescue Fire Fighting Training Center

Airport firefighters from around the world will now be coming to Northeast Wisconsin for training. The ATW Airport Rescue Fire Fighting Training Center, or ARFF, opened about a year ago. It’s a partnership between Appleton International Airport and Fox Valley Tech, but access to the facility has been limited due to the pandemic.

Cause of Mosinee house fire remains under investigation

Authorities are still investigating what caused a fire at a house in Mosinee Tuesday night. The fire was reported around 8:30 p.m. at a house on the 800-block of 9th Street in Mosinee. Deputy Chief Adam Grahn said there were people in the home at the time of the fire. They made it out safely. Last night at approximately 8:30pm the Mosinee Fire District along with its auto aid (Kronenwetter, SAFER and Riverside) were paged to a structure fire in the city of Mosinee.

West Bend and Town of Sheboygan refurbishing vintage fire trucks

Both the West Bend and Town of Sheboygan fire departments recently added new vintage fire trucks to their fleets. The West Bend Fire Department recently refurbished a 1929 Model Ford A fire truck. According to the fire department, they believe it was originally owned by the Germantown Fire Department and then purchased by the West Bend FD in the 1940s.

Wisconsin Public Service offering grant opportunity for emergency response agencies

Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) last week announced a grant opportunity for first responders. “No matter the challenge, first responders work tirelessly to keep our communities safe,” WPS stated. “The Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) Foundation is supporting these courageous men and women by offering $50,000 through its Rewarding Responders Grant to area emergency response agencies.

Two killed in semi versus car crash in Chippewa County

A 38-year-old rural Cadott woman and her 13-year-old son were killed when the woman's 2004 Chevy Monte Carlo hit a semi truck and trailer head-on on Hwy. 29 near Chippewa Falls. The crash happened at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 10, on Hwy. 29, east of 190th Street, in the town of Lafayette, in Chippewa County, according to the Chippewa County Sheriff's Office.
