Fire at Eau Claire bar causes $200K worth of damage

An Eau Claire bar is still cleaning up following a fire Monday morning. Firefighters responded to the Alibi Lounge on South Esmond Road around 4:30. The fire caused about $200,000 worth of damage. Firefighters responded following what callers described as an explosion. Though no civilians were hurt in the fire, one firefighter did go to the hospital with a medical emergency.

Wisconsin's 'Roller Coaster' Wildfire Season in 2021 Is Still Going

Wildfires in Wisconsin have burned nearly 1,800 acres of land so far in 2021, more than all of 2020, with more than a month to go in the typical wildfire season. "This year has been a roller coaster," said Catherine Koele, wildfire prevention specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, pointing to lighter than usual snowpack in the northern part of the state that led to an earlier start to the wildfire season.

New Berlin Fire Department Responds to 3 Serious Car Crashes In 24 Hours

New Berlin Fire Department and paramedics responded to three serious car crashes within 24 hours on Sunday. The first one occurred at 9:24 a.m. on NB I-43 at Beloit Road where a female driver left the roadway rolling her vehicle over several times coming to rest on the roof in the median. She was extricated through the rear window and was transported to Froedtert Trauma Center, according to fire officials.

Oshkosh: Arson Awareness Week is May 2nd- 8th

The first week of May is Arson Awareness Week. “Arson is one of those things that people think doesn’t happen a lot but it actually does. It’s the fifth most common cause of fires for house fires and third for non house fires,” said John Holland, the Public Information Officer for the Oshkosh Fire Department.

Cause of massive Wausau area fire still under investigation

The SAFER Fire Department said more than 150 firefighters aided in the response to a fire reported at Gundman’s Garage in Wausau Saturday afternoon. Both SAFER and Marathon Fire initially responded around 3:17 p.m. Saturday with many more departments joining in during the eight-hour response. Investigators said six buildings were lost in the fire, but two homes were saved as a result of the joint effort.

Crews battle massive fire at Whiting Mill in Menasha

VIDEO: More than 120 firefighters responded to a massive fire at the former Whiting Paper Mill in Menasha. Crews were called to the scene at 100 River Street at 7:29 p.m. Sunday. Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue called in mutual aid and 123 firefighters responded to help at the scene and respond to other calls for service in the area.

Fire danger across the state still high despite coming of spring greens

April showers have not been enough to protect May’s flowers. Fire danger across the state remains very high, according to a press release by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources on Sunday. In early April, the cause was the dryness in the air and on the ground, with high winds. Spring greens — referring to the grass turning green and trees sprouting leaves thanks to rain promoting growth — had yet to come, making the potential for wildfires high.

Incense, candle ruled to be cause of Appleton fire

Firefighters say no one was injured during a fire Saturday nigh in Appleton. The Appleton Fire Department says crews were called to the 500 block of N. Division Street at 9:30 p.m. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke on the first floor and flames in a second floor bedroom. Firefighters said those inside the home tried throwing a “couple buckets of water” at the flames, but were able to control the flames within minutes using water fire extinguishers.

Two people, two dogs displaced following Madison house fire

Two people and two dogs are without a home Saturday after their house caught fire, according to the Madison Fire Department. Firefighters responded to the house, located in the 4100 block of Vidon Drive on Madison’s north side., around 10:30 a.m. Madison Fire says several neighbors called reporting multiple sides of the house were engulfed in fire.

Door County fire departments work together to respond as they see volunteerism decline

A nation-wide shortage of volunteer firefighters has departments in Door County leaning on each other for a little more for help. “It’s nearing crisis mode speaking generically for volunteer fire departments,” said Chris Hecht, Fire Chief for the Sister Bay-Liberty Grove Fire Department. The department has about 65 volunteer firefighters but could always use more.

Columbus Fire Chief to retire this summer

Columbus Fire Chief Randy Koehn announced he will retired July 30. Koehn, a Columbus native, has served as the fire chief in Columbus for 12 years and spent over 46 years working at both the Columbus and Beaver Dam fire departments. “I’ve been thinking about it for several months,” Koehn said. “I gave it a lot of thought and decided it was time.

2 hurt, pet unaccounted for after Sheboygan fire

Two people were hurt after a fire Friday morning in Sheboygan. Crews add one pet is still unaccounted for. The house fire happened around 1 a.m. on the 2500 block of N. 19th St. in the City of Sheboygan. Firefighters were able to put out the flames on the rear of the house and garage in ten minutes.

Sparks from fire pit ignites Kaukauna home, melting deck and siding

VIDEO: The Kaukauna Fire Department responded to a fire that melted the siding and deck of a local’s home. According to a release, the fire started around 4:30 p.m. Thursday near the 500 block of East 18th Street in Kaukauna. Firefighters say the fire had been knocked down before they had arrived thanks to a neighbor who started putting out flames with a garden hose.

Car catches fire after crashing in Beloit

No injuries were reported following a single-vehicle crash at the corner of Burton and Sixth streets in Beloit on Wednesday afternoon that resulted in the vehicle catching fire, according to the Beloit Fire Department. Crews from the Beloit and Town of Beloit fire departments responded and all occupants were out of the vehicle prior to the fire starting, the department said.

Sheboygan County reports fourth COVID-19-related death in two weeks as a third variant emerges locally

Sheboygan County reported the presence of another COVID-19 variant Wednesday, as well as the county's fourth death in the past two weeks. The person whose death was reported Wednesday was in their 70s, bringing the county's total deaths to 138. A third variant strain, P.1, has been found in Sheboygan County through random sampling, Public Health said in Wednesday's update.

3 Years After An Explosion Rocked Wisconsin's Only Refinery, Superior Is Still Waiting For Answers

Three years ago, an explosion rocked Wisconsin's only oil refinery in Superior, injuring three dozen people and causing a temporary evacuation of city residents. But investigators with the U.S. Chemical Safety Board have yet to release a final report on their investigation into the blast. The Duluth News Tribune first reported that former employees and government auditors found that the agency has faced a shortage of staffing and unfilled board positions that have contributed to a backlog of investigations.

Red Cross assisting Milwaukee residents after Merrill Park apartment building catches fire

People from about 28 apartment units are being assisted by the Red Cross after their Merrill Park apartment building caught fire Tuesday morning. A large apartment in the 600 block of North 31st Street caught fire around 10 a.m., fire officials say. The American Red Cross of Wisconsin said in a statement that they are in the process of connecting residents with temporary housing and other immediate needs.
