‘Warm zone’ training under way in Sun Prairie

Hypothetical situation: A shooting incident with mass casualties and a shooter on the premises takes place in Sun Prairie. Would you as a public safety officer want to either wait to get the victims medical aid, or get them medical aid as quickly as possible? Thinking about the unthinkable, Sun Prairie’s emergency services have been participating in “warm zone” training at the former Fuzzy’s Liquor on A Street recently — conducting the third of four training sessions last Friday afternoon.

More police and fire overtime and raises in Racine budget

Police Chief Art Howell and Fire Chief Steve Hansen presented 2017 budgets that just slightly differed from their respective 2016 budgets Wednesday night, although they include salary and overtime increases. Overall, the Police Department’s budget is projected to increase by just less than 3 percent, to roughly $28.

Los Angeles firefighters rescue delivery driver who fell into 40-foot excavation hole

Firefighters Thursday rescued a delivery truck driver who fell into an excavation about two feet in diameter and 50 feet deep at a construction site in the Beverly Crest area of Los Angeles. The accident was reported about 8:40 a.m. in the 1600 block of San Ysidro Drive, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.

Florida department charging for ambulance calls that result in treatment but no transport

Would you dial 911 for a cut finger, menstrual cramps, a cough or shampoo in your eyes? One South Florida municipality has had enough. The city of Hollywood is now charging people who call for an ambulance and are treated but not taken to a hospital. Hollywood residents will be charged $160, while non-residents will be charged $200.

California firefighter union apologizes for police incident following charity ball

The Contra Costa firefighters union Wednesday apologized for the weekend arrest of two off-duty firefighters following its charity ball that left two police officers injured. Around 5 a.m., just hours after the Second Annual Firefighters Ball at the Marriott Walnut Creek hotel had ended, Walnut Creek police responded to hotel security’s request to remove four drunk people, police said.

Video: Firefighter uses fire hose to reveal baby’s gender

Car Fires Deliberately Set at Milwaukee Home of MMA Fighter Anthony Pettis

VIDEO: Milwaukee Police are investigating two car fires as suspected arson. Officers were called to the 3700 block of S. Cherokee Way around 1:10 a.m. for a report of a fire. The preliminary investigation reveals that an unknown suspect used an accelerant to ignite two vehicles, which spread to a third vehicle.

Manitowoc firefighter, citizen of year named

The Manitowoc Noon Rotary Club has named its 2016 Firefighter and Citizen of the Year winners. Firefighter and paramedic Tyler Kiel and Kassondra Woolford won the titles at the club’s celebration banquet earlier this month at Manitowoc’s Holiday Inn. Kiel was hired by the Manitowoc Fire Department in 2010 and took an immediate interest in the “Fill the Boot Campaign,” which asks firefighters to gather on local streets and collect donations in their boots.

Milwaukee County: Man sentenced to 71 years for setting fire that killed 2 children

A Milwaukee County judge sentenced Michael Morgan to 71 years in prison on Thursday, October 27th. Morgan was convicted of setting a fire that killed two children at a Milwaukee home in October 2015. The arson fire happened at near 36th and Silver Spring Drive around 2:00 a.m. Six children had to be rescued from the burning home — four of them by their grandmother.

Town of Fulton barn fire re-ignites

Fredonia fire chief stepping down

Chief’s call for new Port Washington firehouse gains some traction

A study of the Port Washington fire station will be done next year, something Port Fire Chief Mark Mitchell has been seeking for the last several years. But what shape that study will take has yet to be determined. City Administrator Mark Grams said on Tuesday that the Finance and License Committee placed $15,000 in the contingency fund for a study of the fire station, but whether that will be an analysis of expansion of the current firehouse or planning for a second fire station has yet to be determined.

Indiana volunteer fire chief hospitalized, 2 others hurt after silo fire and explosion

A labor of love that qualifies as hazardous duty. Three firefighters were hurt Tuesday, including a volunteer fire chief, related to a fire and explosion in LaGrange County. A 50-foot silo full of sawdust was the source of the trouble. It turned into a dangerous situation for firefighters and at least one worker in harm's way.

New York dept. will elevate firefighters to captains on a 'situational' basis

A new procedure went into effect last week that’s designed to make sure the fire department has adequate supervision during fires and other serious incidents. Fire Chief Dale C. Herman said that battalion chiefs now have the ability to “elevate” firefighters to the role of captains on an as-needed basis.

Video released from last year's rescue of 2 kids from San Diego house fire
