Body found in burned vehicle in Milwaukee: “I’m disappointed in this city”

VIDEO: A death investigation is underway in Milwaukee after police say a body was found in a vehicle near 54th and Capitol Drive on Christmas Day -- Sunday, December 25th. Police responded around 7:00 a.m. There was a vehicle fire at this scene. Milwaukee firefighters extinguished the fire and discovered the body.

Man dies in Wisconsin Rapids apartment fire

A man was found dead Monday evening in a Wisconsin Rapids apartment building following a fire. Tenants at the building at 520 Eighth Ave. called the Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department around 3 p.m. reporting they smelled smoke in the complex. When the fire department arrived, they weren't sure where the smell was coming from.

Ice fishers, ATV plunge through lake ice; 3 injured, Dane County official says

Two people plunged into the water on Lake Kegonsa Saturday morning when their ATV broke through "bad ice," an official said. Dane County dispatch said crews responded to a report at about 7:20 a.m. that someone had fallen through the ice on Lake Kegonsa at Fish Camp County Park near McFarland. The Madison Fire Department said crews from McFarland, Monona, Madison and Stoughton were dispatched to east of Colladay Point on the lake.

Fond du Lac boy called a hero for alerting parents to Christmas morning fire

VIDEO: A nine-year old boy saved his parents from a Christmas morning fire. Zevin Jelic was trying to sleep on a couch on the first floor of his family's duplex when he noticed smoke coming from the basement. He immediately alerted his parents and they all got out of the home safely. Firefighters are calling him a true hero.

Experts demonstrate how to survive falling through the ice in Janesville

I can't feel my legs.” That was Adam Walton, a Janesville firefighter/paramedic after his third dip into the frigid waters of the trout pond at Rotary Botanical Gardens on Friday. Walton, a fishing guide in his spare time, had voluntarily jumped into winter waters once before, about three years ago.

Hawaii fire department cited by state for death of firefighter during water rescue training

The Honolulu Fire Department has received two separate citations in connection with a training incident that led to the death of a firefighter in June. HFD says it’s taking corrective action after the death of 63-year-old Clifford Riggsbee, who died from injuries sustained during a training exercise at an area called Suicides near Diamond Head.

Sacramento ambulances turn firefighters into ER patients due to exhaust fumes

Six diesel ambulances with systemic exhaust problems have sickened Sacramento firefighters enough to send them to local emergency rooms as patients, the firefighters union and city said Friday. The city of Sacramento has removed those ambulances from the firefighting fleet and is planning to replace another eight units that may develop a similar problem.

Texas ambulance hijacked with medic team, patient inside

An Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services ambulance was hijacked Sunday afternoon at approximately 4 p.m. with a medic crew and patient inside. According to an ATCEMS spokesperson, the medic crew was on scene for a different call at 500 E. 7th St., the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless (ARCH) when an individual hijacked the ambulance while the medic team was tending to a patient.

Firefighters save one of their own in Massachusetts mayday

The mayday came minutes after firefighters arrived at a 3-alarm blaze that’s believed to have started about 9 p.m. Thursday with an overloaded extension cord in the bedroom of a second-floor apartment at 11 Ashton Place in Methuen. One of them was trapped — and running out of air. A rapid intervention team trained specifically to rescue firefighters was en route from Salem, N.
