Four families escape Berlin apartment fire

VIDEO: An overnight fire destroyed an apartment building in Berlin, leaving four families without homes. The fire happened on Quarry Street, on the Berlin’s east side. The City of Berlin Police Department says flames had spread throughout the four-unit apartment building by the time fire crews responded about 8:00 Tuesday night.

Beloit Fire stretched by call volume

City fire and emergency medical staff are concerned over the steadily increasing volume of fire and medical calls. The Beloit Fire Department responded to 5,431 total calls in 2016, compared to 5,036 in 2015. The most common types of calls fielded over the two years stemmed from difficulty breathing to reports of chest pains and fire alarm responses.

D.C. Fire Response Times Improving, Fall Short for Critical Care

Nearly one year into the District’s use of a private ambulance service to improve 911 response times and the fire chief is acknowledging the department is "struggling" with the availability of advance life support medic units. Those are the ambulances staffed by paramedics who are supposed to respond to the most critical emergency calls like cardiac arrest.

Mississippi firefighters learn to be eyes and ears in catching sex traffickers

Interstate 20 is the corridor for sex trafficking from Dallas to Atlanta. The City of Clinton sits roughly in the middle. It now has more eyes being trained to look for victims who are trapped in the prostitution and labor system. The message to Clinton Firefighters and first responders is to take a second look at the scene and the people there, especially minors.

Power struggle at Delaware fire department prompts lawsuit

Woman is first in 10 years to pass firefighter test for Georgia county

Wearing 60 pounds of equipment, Jessica Vanegas on Tuesday became the first woman in 10 years to pass the physical agility test to become a Paulding County firefighter. She’s expected to graduate the fire academy in two weeks, Channel 2 Action News reported. And it’s a career the young woman told Channel 2 she’s wanted her whole life, while growing up in Paulding County.

New York firefighter who shot own hand won't face criminal charges

The on-duty city firefighter who accidentally shot himself in the hand Feb. 10 will not be criminally charged, city police said. "Our investigation determined that it was an accidental discharge and no crime had been committed," Albany police spokesman Officer Steve Smith said. The fire department is still conducting its own investigation and may take disciplinary action against the firefighter, Fire Chief Warren Abriel said.

Popular Milwaukee Barbecue Restaurant Catches Fire, Again

VIDEO: For the second time in under four months fire hits a popular barbecue restaurant in Milwaukee. The kitchen at "Ashley's Que" on 2nd and National caught fire this afternoon, right as the family was rebuilding their first restaurant that burned down. The back of the building on 2nd and National is pretty heavily damaged but firefighters were able to get the fire under control, contain it to that spot, and put the whole fire out in about an hour.

Pittsville area homes damaged by early winter floods

VIDEO: Nearly a dozen homes alongside Highway 80 near Pittsville were flooded Tuesday after a heavy rainfall overnight. According to Pittsville Fire Chief Jerry Minor, the Yellow River rose quickly giving nearby homeowners little warning. “We've been in the middle of a remodel in the basement,” said Tanya Stelzer.

Sun Prairie Fire Chief rips proposed changes impacting state fire regulation

Sun Prairie Fire Chief Chris Garrison joined other fire chiefs on Monday, Feb. 13 in calling on Gov. Scott Walker to expand the use of circuit interrupters in new Wisconsin homes -- just days after teaming up with his fellow chiefs to oppose changes to state fire sprinkler standards. “Anything under 20 units didn’t require sprinklers, which to me, is a huge step back,” Garrison said, referring to the proposed legislation that would have changed sprinkler regulations for multi-unit dwellings.

Female firefighters rare on central Wisconsin forces

It's a tough job, but the women who are employed or volunteer for area departments believe anyone, no matter their gender, can do it. Shots fired into Milwaukee fire station, forcing it to close

Gunfire struck a Milwaukee Fire Department fire station on the west side Friday afternoon, forcing the station to close, fire department officials said. Multiple shots were fired into Engine Co. 13 at 2901 N. 30th St. about 1 p.m., a news release from the department said. No department members were injured.

Victims of Pittsfield fire identified

The Brown County Sheriff’s Office has identified two people found dead following a house fire in the Town of Pittsfield. Investigators say the victims were 49-year-old Allen J. Renier, and 41-year-old Molly B. Brochman. On Friday, firefighters were called to a home on Tamarack Drive between Oak Hill Drive and Westline Road, between Pulaski and Green Bay.

Wyoming fire chief dies at home after helping remove ice jams

A statewide fire group says the longtime chief of the Greybull Fire Department died Thursday. Worland Fire Chief Chris Kocher of the Wyoming Local State Assistance Team says Chief Paul Murdoch died at home on Thursday after he had spent the day helping to remove ice jams from the Big Horn River. Kocher says Murdoch, 53, was found unresponsive at his home.
