Maryland firefighter struck by fire vehicle

The Salisbury firefighter hit by a fire vehicle Sunday is out of surgery and doing well, according to a Salisbury Fire Department Facebook post. A crew of Maryland State Police troopers flew the injured firefighter to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore after the Sunday afternoon incident.

Man who refused to leave home during California wildfire said he did not threaten firefighters

Flames came down around Dave Ferrera’s La Tuna Canyon home Saturday as he scrambled around his property to douse the small fires igniting everywhere. Fueled by triple-digit heat, wind and dry brush, the flames could not be stopped and he called out for help. The firefighters who had been there earlier in the day hadn’t gotten to the flames above in time, he said, so the blaze just chewed its way down the canyon and wrapped around his home, the one that sat on 10 acres at the end of La Tuna Canyon Road.

IAFC’s Fire Service Executive Development Institute Available for 6th Year

Massachusetts firefighter rescued after getting trapped on roof while battling fire

VIDEO - The top floor of a Worcester three-family home was destroyed by a fire on Labor Day. Firefighters responded to a call around 4 p.m. for active flames at a building on Farwell Street. Officials said heavy smoke poured from the top floor of the building, with winds adding intensity to the fire and causing it to spread.

Grill sparks garage fire in Fond du Lac

VIDEO: A charcoal grill sparked a Labor Day garage fire in Fond du Lac, according to firefighters. Crews got the call to the 200 block of Chestnut St. just after 5:15 p.m., according to a news release. The grill, before it was completely cooled, was put back in the garage near flammable materials, which caught fire, authorities said in a news release.

Beaver Dam Fire Department gets $10,000 toward rescue program

United Cooperative, a farmer-owned cooperative, donated $10,000 to the Beaver Dam Fire Department to help the department in funding its water rescue program. “These funds will help prepare Beaver Dam’s response teams with water rescue equipment that is necessary to keep first responders safe and give victims the best possible chance in an unfortunate situation,” David Cramer, president and CEO of United Cooperative said in a statement.

“Engulfed in minutes:” Intense flames rip through Kenosha home; spread to neighbor’s

For seven minutes, they had to put their hoses down and back away from their trucks because an electrical line fell onto their equipment.

Fond du Lac Fire Department adds concussion testing to physical exams

VIDEO: Concussions are a big concern in the sports world, but they're also a worry in the workplace. One career that poses a serious risk is firefighting. Fond du Lac Fire Rescue has made a new policy for employee physical exams. Now every firefighter has to get baseline concussion testing. "About 68,000 injuries to firefighters throughout the United States every year and about 13% of those are head injuries," explained Captain Jim Wamser.

Westby home destroyed by fire, one pet perishes

The tears rolled nonstop from the eyes of Angie Geier as she watched flames shooting through the roof of her home at 417 Coon Prairie Ave. in Westby, Saturday, Aug. 26. A short time later, Lucas Geier arrived and stared in disbelief as firefighters carried armloads of charred items from the house. Boxes of family photos and dresser drawers filled with children’s clothing, all blackened with soot, covered the front yard, along with the mangled remains of furniture.

Lodi Fire, EMS budget postponed until Nov. 6 meeting

Lodi and West Point municipalities examined the next steps for a Lodi Area Fire/Emergency Medical Services Department station at a joint meeting Aug. 21. All gathered to discuss proposed Fire and EMS 2018 budgets with the intent to pass them. They also discussed a Request for Proposal that solicits a firm to conduct a comprehensive review of long-term facility needs, as well as new site locations for a joint EMS and Fire station.

Milwaukee firefighters respond to house fire near 11th and Keefe

Cleveland police, EMS unions refuse to hold flag at game after Browns players kneel

Forest Service battalion chief killed in car crash returning from California wildfire

The Pismo Beach man who was killed Thursday morning in a collision on Highway 41 in Kings County was a Santa Maria-based U.S. Forest Service battalion chief. Gary Helming, 47, sustained fatal injuries in the collision, which occurred south of Highway 33, according to the Kings County Coroner’s Office and the California Highway Patrol.
