Deputy Milwaukee Fire Chief David Votsis says firefighters were called to a unit at the Woodlands apartments on Milwaukee's northwest side just after 5 a.m. Sunday. The Milwaukee County medical examiner's office says two children - a 2-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy - were found dead in the fire.

Former Canandaigua Fire Chief Mark Marentette has filed a complaint against the City of Canandaigua, saying his constitutional right to a fair hearing was violated. A fired East Greenwich firefighter testified Wednesday that he learned of his termination during an emotional late-night call from his brother. James Perry said he was in bed when his brother, William Perry, called his cellphone around 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 19. “He said, ‘I got an email you were terminated tonight,’” James Perry said.

Several escaped a burning apartment home Thursday morning, just three months after Springfield firefighters installed smoke alarms in the structure.  The smoke alarms sounded, notifying residents in two first-floor apartment of a fire that engulfed the second floor apartment Thursday morning. During a safety canvass in June, firefighters installed a new smoke alarm and replaced a dead battery in another alarm in that building.
