Niagara Firefighters Find Missing Man Dead in Woods

The body of a 19-year-old man was found off of Barlow Lake Road in the Town of Niagara on Monday, Jan. 8. Jacob Gleason was believed to be traveling through the area on his way back to Houghton before he ended up in the woods. At 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 7, someone reported a car with Michigan plates that had been abandoned off of Barlow Lake and Brown Spur on a snowmobile trail.

Battle of the Burgers: Kenosha police, firefighters face off for charity

The unions representing city police officers and firefighters are raising funds for their charities one burger at a time. They kicked off the second annual “Battle of the Burgers” Wednesday night at Waterfront Warehouse, 3322 Sheridan Road.

Veteran firefighter and 2-time chief of Florida fire department dead at 91

Miles Richard Bowers' first job as a firefighter in 1948 was to help tackle one of Jacksonville's worst fires at a paint factory. One of his last jobs was in 2003 when he was named the city's fire chief for the second time. He had previously led the department from 1984 to 1988. Bowers, who served longer than any other firefighter on the force, died Tuesday after a stroke.

Helmet camera records Georgia firefighters catching children trapped on balcony during fire

VIDEO - Fire crews in DeKalb County are investigating what caused a massive fire at the Avondale Forest Apartments that displaced dozens of families. The two alarm fire in Decatur damaged more than twenty units one week ago. Judge sets two sessions for state of New Jersey, Atlantic City firefighters to negotiate cuts

Attorneys for the state and the city firefighters union will have two court-approved mediation sessions this month to try to resolve issues regarding salary cuts and a possible 10 to 12 more layoffs. Both parties were back in court Wednesday, as Superior Court Judge Julio Mendez reviewed state-proposed staffing and salary cuts for the Fire Department in the ongoing case between International Association of Fire Fighters Local 198 and state.

Crews rescue fisherman who fell through ice on Lake Mendota

VIDEO: Foggy conditions made it hard for law enforcement to find an ice fisherman, after he fell through the ice on Lake Mendota. It happened Wednesday night just off the shore of the city of Middleton. The Fire Chief with the Middleton Fire District said a man was riding back to shore on an ATV when he hit a thin spot on the ice and fell through.

Fire causes evacuation in Sparta neighborhood

VIDEO: A portion of a Sparta neighborhood was evacuated Wednesday night after a house fire. Firefighters from the Sparta Area Fire District were called to the area of Tyler and Main Streets at about 7 p.m. Initial calls said a garage was on fire before the flames spread to the house. Chief Mike Arnold says there were two vehicles in the garage at the time of the fire and between 50 and 60 tires in the garage's attic.

Fire damages home near 39th and Roberts in Milwaukee

Firefighters on Wednesday morning, Jan. 10 responded to the scene of a house near 39th and Roberts in Milwaukee. The call came in around 3:40 a.m. When crews arrived on scene they found fire on the first and second floors of the home. “The fire from the interior of the building extended to the second floor of the building and had a deep-seated fire in the attic space.
