The city moved forward Thursday with plans to address problems with the city’s fire stations, create an agreement for slipholders at La Crosse Municipal Harbor and fund a rental assistance program for homeless families. Days after the head of a Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department advocacy group for female firefighters issued a resignation letter, charging lax attitudes toward sexual harassment, the chief says he doesn’t believe the department has major issues and that he has no plans to resign.

In one day, 53 firefighters packed up two fire houses and left behind the stations they knew and loved. That day, Jan. 23, Vancouver’s two new fire stations were deemed complete — complete enough, anyway, to unlock the doors and put the state-of-the-art facilities into service.

Fire destroyed the Dun-Rite Asphalt Maintenance Company, W725 County B in Marinette in an early morning fire Wednesday, Jan. 31. The Town of Peshtigo Fire Fire Department received the alarm shortly after 3 a.m. A passerby had alerted authorities to the fire. Town of Peshtigo Fire Chief, Mike Folgert arrived on scene and immediately called for a MABAS box alarm bringing in units from the City of Marinette, City of Peshtigo and Grover-Porterfield fire departments for assistance.

The Jan. 25 fire that destroyed the Wilderness Resort dormitory under construction was determined to be an arson by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. Barrington officials are suing a Canadian trucking company over the cleanup of a chemical spill last year, alleging firefighters unwittingly handled a hazardous chemical that damaged their equipment after being told the material was vegetable oil.
The spill happened shortly after 11:30 p.m. March 7, when a semitrailer belonging to Xan Systems Inc.

Weeks after a tragic fire on Bowdoin Street in Providence, a firefighter who was trapped inside a burning building is speaking to Eyewitness News.
In the early morning hours of Jan. 6, more than 100 firefighters filled Bowdoin Street as they battled flames that extended to several homes. Providence firefighters Dan Rinaldi and Jay LaSalle had just finished a check inside one of the homes, so they decided to head into another.
