Janesville woman injured after being struck by truck revving engine, squealing tires, police say

A mother was injured early Friday morning when a truck driver struck her while speeding away after being asked to stop being so loud, Janesville police said. Janesville police and firefighters responded around 2:20 a.m. to Mineral Point Avenue and North Oakhill Avenue for a report of a hit-and-run crash with injuries, according to a release.

Beaver Dam Fire Department looking ahead to property purchase

The Beaver Dam Fire Department is continuing to prepare to expand its footprint. The department is assembling an ad hoc committee to consider next steps for a new north side fire station and is also looking at a training center. Fire Chief Alan Mannel is also pushing for a referendum to try to get more funds for the department.

California wildfires: End in sight for Klamathon, County fires

An inferno that has burned from California into Oregon over the past week and is believed to have killed one person should be fully under control by Sunday, officials said. The Klamathon Fire, which started July 5 in Siskiyou County, was 75 percent contained Thursday evening at 36,500 acres, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or Cal Fire.

Teenager's death leads to major change at Cincinnati 911 center

A major upgrade called Smart 911 was launched Thursday to help improve Cincinnati’s 911 operations in the wake of a teenager's death. “This will be able to save lives,” said Cincinnati Councilwoman Amy Murray. When someone calls 911 from a cellphone key information will now be displayed on the dispatcher’s screen about the caller if they've signed up for the program.

Virginia department hires new fire chief amid turmoil

Coding team develops app to turn smartphones into smoke detectors
