Sun Prairie: Fire damages Chandler Lane home

Fire on Monday, Oct. 15 caused between $50,000 and $75,000 in damage to a Chandler Lane home, according to Fire Chief Chris Garrison. At 12:17 p.m., the Sun Prairie Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at a four unit multi-tenant building in the 900 Block of Chandler Lane. The first unit on the scene reported fire up the side of the building, but was unsure if it spread to the interior, according to Garrison.

Green Bay attic fire displaces four

A fire on Green Bay's east side Monday night displaced four people and caused about $30,000 damage. The blaze at 1286 E. Mason St. was reported about 7:10 p.m. Firefighters found smoke coming from the building's eaves and roof, Drew Spielman, a Green Bay Metro Fire Department battalion chief, said in a news release.

Atlanta agrees to $1.2M settlement with former fire chief

The city of Atlanta has settled a lawsuit with a former fire chief over his firing for a book containing passages which some saw as anti-gay. The Atlanta City Council approved a settlement agreeing to pay fired Atlanta fire chief Kelvin Cochran $1.2 million. In 2013, Cochran wrote a book about his Christian faith titled "Who Told You That You Were Naked?" for a men's Bible study and gave it to around a dozen subordinates he said had either requested copies or shared his beliefs.

Cal Fire cadets fired for drinking will get their jobs back

Most of the California state firefighters who were fired last year because they drank alcohol during a training academy will return to work in 2018, according to Cal Fire and their union. Cal Fire in April announced that 17 firefighters would be dismissed from state service because they violated a code of conduct during their seven-week academy by drinking alcohol after hours.

Washington firefighter's invention will close bedroom doors in house fires

Rhode Island firefighters’ sick pay under scrutiny

The city has suspended an improper practice at the Fire Department involving calculations of unused sick time and payment for that time to firefighters, according to Mayor Joseph J. Solomon. “Activities that may have occurred in the past, when brought to the attention of our fire chief and myself, were suspended way back in July,” Solomon said.

Firefighters Sue California Gas Company Over Massive Leak

Drone interference with first responders could lead to hefty fines

The Federal Aviation Administration is asking operators of unmanned aircraft or drones to consider the consequences when flying could interfere with firefighter, law enforcement or medical flight operations. Drone operators are now more likely than ever to face serious civil penalties for interfering with first responders, even for first-time offenses, according to a press release from the FAA.

Child playing with cigarette lighter causes fire in Racine

The Racine Fire Department was called out to a possible structure fire near Green Street and 3 Mile Road Sunday night, Oct. 14. People inside were able to extinguish most of the bedroom fire before fire crews arrived. So when firefighters got to the scene just after 7 p.m., they cooled down the area of the bedroom closet where the fire started.

One killed, one hospitalized after Town of Sun Prairie crash

One person died, a second was transported for medical treatment and a third person was arrested following an Oct. 14 crash in the Town of Sun Prairie. According to Sun Prairie Asst. Fire Chief Bill Sullivan, shortly after 4 p.m., the Sun Prairie Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident with multiple injuries in the 2600 block of County Highway T in the Town of Sun Prairie.

FDNY Commissioner: Injured Firefighter ‘A Very Lucky Individual’ After Surviving 30-Foot Fall Off Ladder

A firefighter survived a frightening fall off a ladder on Sunday night. The incident happened on Mayflower Avenue in the Pelham Bay section of the Bronx at around 9 p.m. The firefighter, who was rushed to Jacobi Hospital, was said to have suffered back and neck injuries after falling off a ladder that was propped next to a third-floor window, CBS2’s Natalie Duddridge reported.

Illinois fire chief’s wife races to get fire truck as their home burns

A firefighting family is dealing with the loss of their own home after a fire on Friday night. The Oraville home of Vergennes Fire Chief Chad Sherman is a total loss, firefighters say. His wife, Trish, and oldest son, Hunter, are also volunteers with the Vergennes Department. “We all practice fire safety and prevention, it’s our number one job,” said Travis Skinner, an area firefighter who knows the family.

First female firefighters at Texas department recall testing process

Detroit firefighters 'bracing' for more arson as Angels Night ends

Firefighters in Detroit are reportedly “bracing” for another series of Devils Nights this Halloween after the city decided to end its annual volunteer-led anti-arson campaign, called Angels Night, according to a fire official. Eight Wood County fire departments to share $656,429 FEMA grant

Firefighters from eight Wood County fire departments will be a little safer thanks to a $656,429 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The grant pays for 95 percent of the cost of replacing all eight departments' self-contained breathing apparatus, Hewitt-Area Fire Department Chief Brian Hafermann said.

10 people rescued from windows in apartment fire on Milwaukee’s east side

VIDEO: The smoke has cleared but the damage remains at an apartment building on Milwaukee's east side. Several residents inside were dangling out of the windows, waiting for help when a fire broke out Friday night, Oct. 12. Those rescued were taken from the high rise by the fire department's ladder. "I saw one of my friends being taken out on a stretcher," said Leslie Zimmermann.
