He had no pulse and was not breathing. Only 13% of victims found in this condition survive the ordeal. Bryson did and made it his priority to visit the local fire station to hug and thank those who helped save him.

The Washington County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to put Smithsburg EMS on probation after the ambulance company notified the county last week it needed immediate financial help.
Smithsburg EMS previously warned the county of its dire financial situation, anticipating it could close its doors by September without assistance.

After years of mechanical problems plaguing the District’s emergency response vehicles, the D.C. Council is moving to fund $65 million in fixes.
The Council’s Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety wants the District to replace old and broken down ambulances, fire engines, and ladder trucks with the funds, as well as build a new repair shop.

Mark Willer, a Baraboo Fire Department lieutenant and EMS rope rescue team manager, peered over the west bluff at Devil’s Lake State Park Monday, watching as firefighter Dave Schrofer descended the cliff face.
A few yards to Willer’s right, other rescue team members along the cliff’s edge called orders back to crews controlling rope mechanisms to safely lower Schrofer down as he hung above a steep drop to forested terrain.

A wild fire that burned approximately 40 acres of wooded land in Minocqua was put out by emergency crews Tuesday afternoon.
The fire was burning about two miles west of Hwy 51 on Blue Lake Rd. near the intersection of Hahn Rd.
The blaze was spotted by a DNR patrol plane shortly before noon, and the Minocqua Fire Department was dispatched to the scene shortly after.

One person died and a house was destroyed in an explosion and fire Sunday morning in Superior, Wisconsin.
According to Superior Police Department, a man believed to be the only person inside the home died in the explosion and fire at 2219 N. 22nd St. The body was found inside after the flames were extinguished.

Six people are displaced following an early morning fire on Madison’s east side.
Firefighters were dispatched to a 4-unit apartment building on the 2900 block of Hoard Street. They arrived around 4:15 a.m. to find black smoke coming from the back side of the building, according to a release by the department.

A town of Merton home's garage was a total loss after a May 12 structure fire, according to Merton Community Fire Chief Josh Paral.
Paral said the call came in at 1:22 p.m. and it took crews 15 to 20 minutes to get the fire under control. Crews were on scene for over two hours.
While Paral was unsure of where the fire originated from, it appeared to be the garage, which suffered the most damage.

Firefighters from all over southeast Iowa came out to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department and 50th anniversary of the Henry County Fire Department on Saturday, May 11, with an open house and training session.
The department brought in a simulation and training trailer from the Fire Service Training Bureau to train firefighters and inform the public about the kinds of training the firefighters have to do.

The Payson Town Council last week voted against merging the Payson, Hellsgate and Houston Mesa fire departments.
Officials negotiated the merger for two years, which won overwhelming support from firefighters. The departments spent thousands on a consultant, which concluded a merger would save money, not require a tax increase and improve services.

It was a very early Saturday morning in November 1986, when Dan Sullivan said he arrived on the scene of his first fire as a new Quincy firefighter. And it was a bad one.

Nearly three months after the incident, the state fire marshal's office has ruled that the blaze that killed a father and two of his children in their town of Waukesha home was entirely accidental.
An investigation by specialists who looked for the origin and cause of the Feb. 19 fire at S15 W22398 Arcadian Avenue revealed that it was the result of "unattended cooking," in which food being prepared on a skillet ignited before it was moved into the kitchen sink.
