Kaden Kummala turns 5 at the end of August, but he’s not asking for presents.
“I just want people to give me money so I can give it to the firefighters,” he told his dad.
With help from his parents, Kyle and Katie Kummala, the Ramsey 4-year-old is raising funds for the Anoka-Champlin Fire Department.

In 1894, the Village of Monroe was incorporated within the Town of Monroe for a very practical reason – the residents needed a local fire department. A town could not form a fire district of its own. Only a village could do that.
As a result, Monroe residents had to rely on fire fighters from Goshen to travel 12 miles, sometimes by train, to battle their blazes.

The start of school is just around the corner. But before class is back in session at Fox Valley Technical College, teachers took some time to study up Thursday.
"One of the experiences that we're doing is wildlife habitat management utilizing fire," said Wildland Fire Instructor Jon Kellermann.

The community is stepping up again to help the family of a fallen Appleton firefighter.
Thirty-four teams teed off for the "Honor Our Heroes Golf Outing" at Winagamie Golf Course in Neenah Thursday morning.
All proceeds are being donated to the family of Appleton driver-engineer Mitch Lundgaard.
Organizers originally planned to donate the proceeds to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

The Assistant Chief of the Kaukauna Fire Department is voicing gratitude to his fellow firefighters for a display of solidarity.
Chad Gerrits said his wife, Jennifer, was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer that has moved into her lung. Jennifer's treatment has caused her to lose all her hair. While she was in chemotherapy treatment Thursday, the City of Kaukauna Fire Department sent a photo showing the entire fire department with shaved heads in honor of Jennifer.

Firefighters extinguished a small fire in a Bristol home’s attic Tuesday.
According to a news release from Bristol Fire Chief John Niederer, the fire was reported at about 11:24 a.m. Tuesday at a residence in the 14100 block of 60th St.
Bristol crews were dispatched along with neighboring companies via Automatic Aid because because Bristol first responders had been dispatched 13 minutes earlier to a medical call in the 18400 block of 120th St.

More than 50 kids from across Wisconsin are in East Troy this week to attend a burn survivors camp.
The week-long event is held at Camp Timber-lee and put on by the Professional Firefighters of Wisconsin Charitable Foundation. It is the 25th year of the annual event.
Campers enjoy zip-lining, horseback riding and archery.

On August 13, 3 residential fire fatalities were reported by the Nation's news media.
Firefighters were dispatched to a garage fire along Parkview Drive just west of Eastgate Drive in Mequon on Thursday morning, Aug. 15.
Fire crews were called out shortly before 10:30 a.m.
Upon the arrival of firefighters, the garage was fully engulfed.
One person inside the home was able to get out safely, while another person was trapped and unable to exit.

Columbia-Richland County fire trucks are now fully staffed after the firefighters union claimed that short staffing was putting firefighters and some neighborhoods in danger.
Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins confirmed the trucks now are fully staffed, and he hasn’t yet needed to cut in other areas.

An arsonist from Stevens Point was sentenced to three years in prison as part of a plea deal. Gary McDonald appeared in Portage County court on Wednesday. He was initially charged with attempted homicide, because people were living in the home he attempted to burn down. He set three fires inside the home, including pouring gasoline on a bed while people were sleeping.
