Chief: Train delayed Rudolph firefighters' response to Tuesday barn fire

VIDEO: Rudolph firefighters called to a barn fire near the intersection of Portage County P and O were delayed for about 15 to 20 minutes while they waited for a train, according to the fire chief. Firefighters received the call to the fire, which was just east of Junction City, around 2 p.m. Tuesday, Rudolph Fire Chief Tony Konkol said.

Mosinee fire chief resigns after suspension, deputy chief also quits

Mosinee Fire Chief Doug Jennings turned in his resignation Thursday after he was put on paid suspension, according to the city's mayor. The Mosinee Fire District suspended Jennings Wednesday evening, Mayor Brent Jacobson said. Jacobson said the suspension was a personnel issue and he could not give any information about it.

Two career EMS staff hired for Marshall department

The dream of having the Marshall Emergency Medical Services District provide sustainability to the program has come to reality. Two career-staff members, Erika Mabrey and Herfrank Loyo, started working for EMS District No. 14 Friday, Jan. 19. With the two employees, EMS Director Scott Allain stated that response times would be quicker, there would be more sustainability and stability in the department, the EMS and fire department would continue to work together and there would be more support for volunteers and on-call staff.

4-alarm fire damages foundry at Kohler Company in Sheboygan County

VIDEO: Emergency crews responded to a four-alarm fire at Kohler Company in Sheboygan County late Wednesday night. The fire started in the cast iron foundry around 11:30 p.m. and continued burning for several hours. The complex is located near Highland Drive and Lower Falls Road in the village of Kohler.

Fire damages Wilderness Resort dorm in Wisconsin Dells, no injuries reported

VIDEO: Firefighters on Thursday morning, Jan. 25th responded to a fire near the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells. Crews were called to the scene around 3:55 a.m. after security noticed smoke at the building site of the Wilderness Resort J-1 dormitory for students -- which is currently under construction.

Holmen fire chief looking for more training with area departments

The Holmen Area Fire Department is exploring ways to further training opportunities and working relationships with area fire departments. At its December meeting, the Holmen Area Fire District Association Board gave HAFD Fire Chief Paul Menches the green light to begin discussions with the La Crosse Fire Department in developing a program for vehicle maintenance.

La Crosse Fire Department names its 'Firefighter of the Year'

VIDEO: The La Crosse Fire Department named its Firefighter of the Year Wednesday. This year the honor goes to Jeff Schott who also got a promotion to Batallion Chief at the ceremony. Schott says he didn't know he was this year's honoree until he saw his parents who made the drive up from Madison for the ceremony.

Vehicle crashes while driving through Madison car wash

A car going through Mister Car Wash Tuesday afternoon, suddenly crashed through the garage door of the business and then sped across University Avenue, hitting and damaging a second garage door across the street. According to a Madison Fire Department incident report, no one was injured in the crash.

Brussels fire destroys barn and claims lives of animals inside

A late afternoon Tuesday fire in the town of Brussels destroyed a barn and equipment stored inside. BUG Assistant Fire Chief James Wautier says his department responded to the property of Dale and Sue Crass at 8878 School Road in the Town of Brussels. The barn was engulfed in flames when the firefighters arrived.

Appleton resident saved in house fire

An Appleton resident is okay after being rescued from a house fire. Appleton firefighters were called to the home on W. Reeve Street just after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Upon arrival, crews saw smoke inside the home. Once inside, emergency crews found the resident lying on the floor by the door. The resident was safely taken out of the house and evaluated for possible injuries.

Sun Prairie firefighters bid farewell to Hydro, their 'unofficial mascot'

Members of the Sun Prairie Fire Department said goodbye to a four-legged friend this week. In a Facebook post, the fire department commemorated their "unofficial mascot," Hydro, who had to be put down Sunday morning after being hit by a truck on Saturday. Hydro was an 2-year-old Dalmation who belonged to the family of volunteer firefighter Matthew Scovill, a 9-year veteran firefighter who has been with the Sun Prairie Fire Department for three years.

Ladysmith brothers steal $14,000 from woman after her house starts on fire, according to police

VIDEO: Two Ladysmith brothers face charges in connection with the theft of more than $14,000 from a Rusk County woman. Stephen Schultz was charged Monday. Gregory Schultz was charged earlier this month. According to the charges, a woman reported a fire happened at her house when she wasn't home last month.

Coordinating assets at a fire scene such as last week in Woodruff

The incident commander during the Monday night fire at Dolhun Field not far from Lake Tomahawk was Lake Tomahawk's fire chief, Doug Rehm. He said he had that role even though the fire was actually in the town of Woodruff. Rehm said the amount of water used to put the fire out was close to 200,000 gallons.

Kilbourn Fire Department in Dells names Gavinski new chief

The saying “it runs in the family” applies to new fire chief Pat Gavinski when it comes to his family’s involvement with the Kilbourn Fire Department. Pat Gavinski said his father, Tim Gavinski was an assistant chief, grandfather, Bob Gavinski, was a former chief and his brother, Dillon Gavinski, was also involved with the department.

Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Fire Department crosses generations with awards

Firefighters across the generations were honored this weekend in Sister Bay as the Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Fire Department held its Christmas and Wives/Husbands Appreciation Party. Two of the honorees represent the third generation of their families to serve for the department with Mitch Olson Jr. earning the Chief’s Choice Award and Captain Kurt Knudson, who is retiring after 39 years.

Bar a total loss after early morning fire in Calumet County

No one was inside the bar or apartments. No one was injured. Officials say the building is a total loss and isn't structurally sound. The fire broke out around 4 a.m. Monday. A couple nearby homes were damaged by the fire. Officials aren't sure what caused the fire. Several roads in the area are closed.

$440K in Racine apartment fire damage; all occupants escaped

A raging Saturday night blaze in a three-story apartment building caused an estimated $440,000 in damage, but all residents escaped the three-story building safely, the Racine Fire Department reported Sunday. Fire crews were called to the fire at 1045 Grand Ave. shortly after 8:30 p.m. The department later reported that working smoke alarms alerted the residents who were home at the time and allowed them to get out.

Pittsfield man killed in house fire on County B

VIDEO: A Pittsfield man died Friday in a house fire on County B east of Pulaski. According to the Brown County Sheriff's Office, the home at 6081 County B was engulfed in flames when authorities arrived at 8 a.m. Pulaski Tri-County Fire Department Fire Chief James Styczynski said the victim was an "older gentleman," who lived alone.
