Madison Fire Department says recent fires involving cigarettes have displaced more than 80

Some recent fires with the common link of cigarettes have left more than 80 people in the community without a home. A release said Madison Fire Department has responded to at least six fires suspected or determined to be caused by improperly discarded smoking materials since February. The fires caused nearly $3 million in property loss.

Family displaced in fire at Beaver Dam's Spring Isle Apartments

No one was injured, but a family was displaced in a fire this morning at Spring Isle Apartments, 1333 Wayland St. According to a press release from the Beaver Dam Fire Department, they were dispatched to a report of a fire inside the rental office around 4 a.m. “On arrival, fire and smoke were coming from the office area on the first floor of the building, extending into the second floor outside,” Beaver Dam Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Matt Christian said in the press release.

‘It pulls at you all the time’: A year later, Appleton firefighters reflect on the loss of Mitch Lundgaard

There are reminders everywhere. A sticker on the window of a fire engine. A painting on the wall of a fire station. A flag crafted out of discarded fire hose. A framed photograph of a flag-draped coffin. Current dry conditions heighten the risk of wildfires in Wisconsin

The drier soil conditions over the past few weeks have enabled farmers in most regions of the state to prepare their fields and plant crops on a more normal spring schedule, unlike last year when planting was delayed several weeks due to unusually wet field conditions. Fire damages old town hall in Eden

A fire that broke out Wednesday caused significant damage to the old town hall in Eden, located in southern Fond du Lac County. Deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's office were called out shortly before 12:30 p.m. for a structure fire reported at 119 Sheridan St. in the village. Construction was occurring on the historic building and it is believed a piece of equipment being used caused the blaze, said Sgt.

35-year-old man is in critical condition after being found unconscious in Beaver Lake

A 35-year-old man is in critical condition after being found unconscious in Beaver Lake on Wednesday morning. According to Jason Roberts, a safety specialist warden with the Department of Natural Resources, law enforcement was dispatched at 10:39 a.m. to the Beaver Lake Public Access. "He was in a kayak," Roberts said of the man.

Retiring Black River Falls Fire Chief receives Hometown Hero Award

Kenosha Fire Department decontamination process puts Kenosha 'ahead of the curve'

Using paint, an empty closet and the help of scientists from three Wisconsin universities, the leader of the Kenosha Fire Department’s emergency medical services created a decontamination system for coronavirus for protective masks. Jim Poltrock, KFD division chief of emergency medical services, has been working since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic to try to keep first responders safe when they are handling medical calls, including making sure staff have N95 masks/respirators used by medical personnel for protection against the virus.

Construction crew struck gas line in downtown Okauchee, shut down the street for an hour, fire chief says

A construction crew using Bobcat equipment struck a gas line in downtown Okauchee on May 12, according to Western Lakes Fire District Chief Brad Bowen. "There was active gas flowing so they evacuated the houses, basically a 300-foot perimeter until the gas company could arrive and shut down the flowing main," Bowen said.

115th Fighter Wing to pay tribute to health care workers, first responders

The 115th Fighter Wing is going to pay tribute to all of America’s heroes, including health care workers and first responders with a flyover with four F-16 Fighting Falcons, over the skies of Wisconsin on Tuesday, May 12. Chicken heat lamp starts Beloit garage fire Sunday night

Firefighters extinguished a garage fire Sunday night caused by a chicken heat lamp, according to a Town of Beloit Fire Department news release. The fire was reported at 8:35 p.m. Sunday, May 10, at 1832 Walters Road. Firefighters found flames inside an attached garage when they arrived and was assured by the homeowner no one was in the house, according to the news release.

Bystanders and police attempt to extinguish porch fire in Sheboygan home

Man's body found at scene of Adams County wildfire

The Adams County Sheriff’s Department has identified a body found at the scene of a wildfire as Robert Hoffman, 73, of Coloma. Investigators said they responded to the report of a wildfire in the 1700 block of 3rd Avenue in Town of Richfield on Wednesday around 1:30 p.m. According to a news release, during suppression efforts Hoffman's body was found within the consumed/burnt area of the fire.
