1 treated for smoke inhalation in Zachow fire

Officials say a man was treated for smoke inhalation Friday night during a Shawano County fire. The fire, which happened at Krueger Kustoms, an automotive shop in the Town of Zachow, started around 9 p.m. Pulaski fire officials say more than a dozen departments responded to the fire, which they say was accidental and was started while workers were repairing a vehicle.

Madison Fire Department: 3 displaced after residential fire on city's east side

A residential fire in the 200 block of Memphis Avenue displaced three residents early Sunday morning. The Madison Fire Department received a call at 2:09 a.m. reporting heavy smoke and an active fire coming from a home on Memphis Avenue. When firefighters arrived at the scene they found the front of the home engulfed in flames.

Kayaker rescued from river island in Town of Grafton

A kayaker was rescued Saturday afternoon after she fell out of her kayak and was trapped on an island in the Town of Grafton, say fire officials. According to the Grafton Fire Department Facebook post, crews were called to the Milwaukee River around 2:30 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived, they noticed several people in the river trying to help the trapped kayaker and one of those people needed to be rescued, said Fire Chief William Rice.

Governor announces $100M grant program for EMS, with federal CARES funds

Gov. Tony Evers announced Thursday a $100 million grant program funded by the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security, or CARES, Act that will help facilities providing different kinds of care amid the pandemic. In a news release, Evers said the funding will support Wisconsin providers emergency medical services, home and community-based services and long-term care providers such as skilled nursing facilities and assisted living facilities.

Town of Leon home suffers extensive damage during blaze

A house in Leon suffered extensive damage in a fire late Wednesday night. The Sparta Area Fire District received the call at 10:15 p.m. of a fire on Jamboree Road in the town of Leon. When crews arrived on scene the house was fully engulfed and all the residents had made it out safely. According to a neighbor, the fire started on the deck and quickly spread while the occupants were downstairs watching TV.

FEMA stops in SE Wisconsin to see how operations to combat COVID-19 are playing out

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is shipping tons of personal protective equipment (PPE) and testing supplies to Wisconsin to help combat COVID-19. A team was on the ground on Wednesday, May 20 to see the work being done. FOX6 News was able to connect with FEMA Administrator James Joseph at UMOS.

$80,000 in damages after fire at Green Bay JBS building

The Green Bay Metro Fire Department responded to a building fire located on Lime Kiln Road on Wednesday. The fire department says they were dispatched at around 1:30 p.m. to a trailer at JBS located on the 1300 block of Lime Kiln Road. Fire crews say the building was evacuated before the fire department arrived.

Car crashes into Town of Peshtigo garden center

A car crashed into a garden center business in the Town of Peshtigo early Wednesday morning. At about 2:26 a.m., the Town of Peshtigo Fire Department was called to a report of a crash with injuries in the area of Highway 41 and Erik's Garden Center. A car crashed into the garden center, stopping just a few feet from a home.

Chippewa: Girl Scout cookie surplus inspires donations for frontline workers

It has been a tough year for Girl Scouts in Western Wisconsin to sell cookies, but they are making the most of their massive surplus to support front line workers. The same time that Girl Scouts were about to set up shop in front of retail stores to sell their cookies, everything shut down. Now there are more than 100,000 left over packages of cookies, the Girl Scouts started donating some boxes and now it has turned into a community wide effort.

Beaver Dam referendum proposed to hire more fire/EMS personnel

Beaver Dam could have a referendum question on the November ballot. On Tuesday, the city’s police and fire commission approved asking the city for a referendum question in November that would ask voters to support a tax increase to cover hiring eight new personnel in the fire and emergency services department.

Mixed-use building, fire station no. 2 additions potentially coming to Waterford

‘Mechanical device failure:’ Fire damages business near 167th and Cleveland in New Berlin

Firefighters from ten municipalities on Tuesday morning, May 19 responded to the scene of a business fire near 167th and Cleveland in New Berlin. The call came in around 3 a.m. A spokesperson for Lincoln Industries, the company who owns the building, says two employees were inside the building at the time of the fire.

Boyceville man charged with arson

A 45-year-old Boyceville man has been charged with arson after a structure fire broke out in the township of Tiffany. Court records show Jason Figler has been charged of arson of a building. When talking with law enforcement, investigators and others, Figler said "This is it. This is our lives. I did that.

Chippewa Falls firefighters extinguish blaze at multi-family residence

The Chippewa Falls Fire Department extinguished a blaze Saturday afternoon at a multi-family residence. The fire at 501 Maitland Drive was reported at 4:29 p.m. Saturday. The fire, which apparently began in a bedroom, caused about $10,000 damage, said Battalion Chief Jason Thom. All occupants had evacuated the residence, and no one was injured.

Off-duty River Falls Firefighter-EMT killed while working on safety crew at speedway

An off-duty Wisconsin firefighter-EMT was killed Friday while clearing the scene of a collision as part of a speedway safety crew. River Falls Firefighter-EMT Eddie Nicholson, 62, died after a damaged bus rolled onto him in the aftermath of the crash at Cedar Lake Speedway, according to RiverTowns.

West Allis firefighters rescue driver stranded in floodwaters along Root River Parkway

A stranded driver was rescued by first responders in West Allis Sunday, May 17 after heavy rain led to flooding along the Root River Parkway. The driver said his truck got stuck in deep water — with the whole street flooded. West Allis firefighters came out with a boat — and pulled the man to safety.

Assisted living resident rescued after fire breaks out at Pleasant Prairie apartment complex

Firefighters helped to rescue a resident of a Pleasant Prairie senior living facility Saturday, after a fire broke out at the apartment complex. At 7:40 a.m. Saturday, Pleasant Prairie police and fire departments responded to the Prairie Villa Senior Apartments, 9500 81st St., for a report of a fire alarm that had gone off, according to a Pleasant Prairie Fire and Rescue Department news release.

Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources say burning permits remain suspended

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced on Friday that burning permits remain suspended for debris piles, barrels, and grass or wooded areas. DNR officials say as the continuation of this permit suspension is to ensure the public remains safe from potential wildfires. The department notes that the spring season is a critical time for wildfires in Wisconsin to happen.

Black River Falls Fire Chief's final ride home

After a total of 40 years in emergency response services, Black River Falls Fire Chief, Steve Schreiber, had his final day on the job. Out of those 40 years, Schreiber spent almost 34 of them working as an employee for the city of Black River Falls. In 1991, Schreiber joined the city fire department and in 2003 he was hired as the Fire Chief, where he has spent his last 17 years.

Daniel Pease named Beloit fire chief

The Beloit Fire Department didn’t have to look far for its new leader, as the Beloit Police and Fire Commission promoted interim chief Daniel Pease following meeting on Friday morning. The commission voted unanimously to approve hiring Pease as chief after meeting in closed session for just under 10 minutes.
