Climate change driving wildfires darkening Wisconsin skies

Smoke has been funneling into Wisconsin at an unprecedented level due to wildfires and weather patterns, impacting air quality and sensitive groups. Researchers argue climate change is driving extreme heat that’s fueling wildfires and degrading the air people breathe. Hundreds of wildfires are burning across the western United States and Canada.

Weyauwega fire crews help carry severely injured motorcyclist to safety

A motorcyclist was found in a field with severe head injuries after getting into an accident on Saturday morning in the Town of Weyauwega. According to the Weyauwega Area Fire Department, at around 2:41 a.m., crews responded to Highway 10 near the intersection of county road U for reports of a motorcycle accident involving a deer.

Kenosha County water warnings, 2 rescued amid heavy rain

The morning after a powerful storm passed through southeast Wisconsin, members of the Kenosha County Dive Team urged people to avoid large bodies of water until things settle down. "People will think that, ‘Oh, I swim in one of the inland lakes on a regular basis. It’s just a little bit bigger. There’s not a whole lot of difference,’" said Deputy Chief Ben Andersen, Somers Fire & Rescue and Kenosha County Dive Team.

Lightning strike determined to be cause of Elkhart Lake fire

Officials say a fire broke out at an Elkhart Lake building Friday evening. According to the Elkhart Lake Fire Department, crews were called to the 100 block of East Rhine Street at 7:42 p.m. for smoke coming from an upper level apartment. After arriving, crews eventually found fire in the attic area, and were able to quickly put out the flames.

Firefighters battle house fire in Racine

The Racine Fire Department responded to a fire at 1600 Illinois Street Saturday, August 7, after receiving reports of heavy smoke from the location. Racine officials say that upon arrival at the location, firefighters saw smoke coming from a single-story residence and quickly put out the blaze. Authorities say the residence's occupant was not home at the time of the fire but is now displaced and will reside with relatives until further notice.

Crash in Sheboygan; 2 transported by Flight for Life, 1 in custody for OWI

Two people were transported to the hospital by Flight for Life Thursday night, Aug. 5 following a two-vehicle crash in Sheboygan. It happened around 8:20 p.m. near 18th Street and Calumet Drive. According to police, a 52-year-old Sheboygan man was turning onto Calumet Drive from 18th Street, heading northbound when his vehicle was struck by a southbound vehicle on Calumet Drive.

Holmen first responders meet and greet kids at ice cream social

The Holmen Area Fire Department and other area first responders got to show off their trucks and share ice cream with local kids. The ice cream social was put together by Dustin Wood, the new owner of Midway Deli in Onalaska. “I thought it’d be a great community thing to have a little meet and greet and ice cream social, and let some kids see a fire truck and meet some firemen and policemen and first responders up close,” says Wood.

Eight cars destroyed in night fire at Kenosha salvage yard

Thick smoke and flames coming from the southeast portion of a local salvage yard led Kenosha firefighters to Jantz Automotive Sales Inc. lot at 3405 Washington Road where fire engulfed and damaged or destroyed eight vehicles Wednesday night. Children's Museum of Green Bay introduces kids to local police and firefighters

Kids in Green Bay got to meet some of the men and women who keep us all safe. The Children's Museum of Green Bay brought in members of the city of Green Bay's police and fire departments as part of their Superheroes Week project. “I don't really get to see police and fire trucks up close, and I also like police and fire trucks,” said Easton Banker.

Dog rescued from house fire on Madison’s north side

A dog is safe after a Wednesday morning house fire while no one was home, according to Madison fire officials. Neighbors of the home on Elka Lane called 911 just before 7:30 a.m., and crews were able to put the fire out in about 10 minutes. Nobody was in the house at the time, but firefighters were able to get a dog out of the house.

1 evaluated for smoke inhalation after fire damages 2 Algoma homes

Officials say a fire in Algoma early Tuesday afternoon caused one person to be treated for smoke inhalation. According to Algoma Fire and Rescue, crews were called to a fire at Kirkland and Arlington Avenue in Algoma at about 1 p.m. Before crews arrived, officials say dispatch told them the fire had already spread to a neighboring building, and mutual aid was then requested from Kewaunee, Casco, Luxemburg and Southern Door fire departments.

Man charged with 8 counts of arson across Brown County, dates back to 2018

A man from Hobart is facing eight charges for separate arson incidents that date back to 2018, one of which gave his uncle a heart attack and later died. According to the criminal complaint, 24-year-old James Ambrosius is charged with eight counts of arson dating back to 2018. Originally, authorities were called to interview Ambrosius on July 27, 2021, as he was seen at a scene of a fire and admitted to being in the parking lot and using cocaine in a vehicle.

Car catches fire inside service center at Saukville dealership, one firefighter injured

The Saukville Fire Department responded to a call of a car on fire inside the service center of Eric Von Schledorn car dealership Monday night. It happened around 6:18 p.m. Monday, August 2. When crews arrived there was a large amount of smoke coming from the garage doors of the service center due to a fire in the engine compartment of a vehicle.

Westfield Man Injured in Fall at Blackhawk State Park

At approximately 4:10 p.m. on July 31, 2021, the Vernon County Emergency 911 Dispatch Center received a call of a man that had been removed from the river and CPR was being performed. Authorities at the scene learned that David W. Quinn, age 66, of, Westfield, WI was getting out of his boat at the dock and slipped and fell.

Kenosha woman formally charged with setting three fires

The Kenosha County District Attorney’s Office on Monday officially charged a 37-year-old Kenosha woman for her involvement in three arsons late last month. Maria R. Vilchez-Bucio made her initial appearance before Kenosha County Court Commissioner Loren Keating on Monday afternoon. Keating imposed a $5,000 cash bond and also set a competency hearing for Aug.

Final call for Rome fire chief killed in home explosion

A 35-year veteran of the Rome Volunteer Fire Department died Tuesday, July 27 in a house explosion in Jefferson County. It was just before 2 p.m. Tuesday when 911 calls started coming in about the house explosion that left pieces of the home everywhere, even stuck up in trees. Sadly, one man, Mike Revolinski, who spent decades helping others in the community, died in the blast.

A plane crash in the Town of Hartford left a female flight instructor dead and another man pilot injured, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office. Kaukauna family faces nearly $40,000 worth of damages after garage fire, no injuries reported

A Kaukauna family is facing an estimated $40,000 worth of damages after a fire erupted in their garage on Friday night. According to the Kaukauna Fire Department, at around 9 p.m., firefighters responded to a home located in the 1900 block Augustine Street for reports of a fire. Upon arrival, crews say they discovered a detached garage filled with smoke, which was also leaking from the soffit.
