Grand Chute Fire Department hosts poster contest for students

Fire Prevention Week is October 3-9, 2021 and this year’s fire prevention theme: is “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety”. The Grand Chute Fire Department is hosting a fire safety poster contest that is open to all 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade students who are residents of Grand Chute attending any school. Posters are to be related to this year’s fire prevention theme: “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety”.

How Altoona Fire & Rescue, UW Health are helping staff with suicidal thoughts

Because first responders are more likely to die by suicide than the general public, UW Health in Madison is working to help address the situation, as are local agencies in the Chippewa Valley. According to a report from the CDC this year, law enforcement officers and firefighters are more likely to die by suicide than in the line of duty, and EMS are nearly 1.

Fallen Appleton firefighter's name to be added to national memorial

Appleton firefighter Mitch Lundgaard will be among the 215 names added to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Maryland this weekend. Lundgaard's name will become a permanent part of the memorial during the 40th Annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend. Lundgaard, 36, died on May, 15, 2019, as his crew responded to an emergency medical call at the at the Valley Transit Center.

Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Deputy rescues two from house fire

A sheriff's deputy saved two people from a house fire in Waupun. Fond du Lac County Sheriff's deputy Derek Rehfeldt was driving through the city when he saw smoke coming from a nearby house. He helped two men and a dog escape as the house filled with smoke. "I'm really glad God put me in that place at the right time and it worked out," Rehfeldt told WBAY-TV.

Marshfield Fire & Rescue Chief Scott Owen To Retire

COVID-19 spread 'critically high' in 21 Wisconsin counties

State health officials indicate the COVID-19 situation in Wisconsin is getting worse. Wednesday, the Department of Health Services (DHS) reported the disease activity level is “critically high” in 21 counties and “very high” in the other 51. These labels are based on the number of positive cases per capita over the last two weeks (the “burden”) and the percent change in the number of cases in the past week (the “trajectory”).

Potato truck accident in Waushara County kills one

At 2:30 a.m. on Thursday an accident occurred involving a potato truck and a minivan in the Township of Oasis. The Waushara County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call reporting the accident had occurred near the intersection of County Road J and County Road P. Upon arrival, the driver of the minivan was pronounced dead and neither vehicle had passengers.

Eau Claire man suspected of arson and criminal damage

A former employee of a nail salon is suspected of arson and criminal damage. Authorities took 48 year-old Cuong Van Nguyen into custody. Nguyen is being given recommended charges of one count of arson of building, repeater, a second count of felony criminal damage to property, repeater, a third count of burglary of a building or dwelling, repeater, a fourth count of criminal damage to property, repeater, and a fifth count of disorderly conduct, repeater.

Motorcyclist killed in crash with semi-truck in Milwaukee County

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving a semi truck on Brown Deer Road Tuesday, Sept. 28. The North Shore Fire Department and Brown Deer Police Department responded to North 51st and Brown Deer Road around 6:55 a.m. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office were also called to the scene.

Camper goes up in flames near Readstown

VIDEO: A scary sight Tuesday afternoon near Readstown as an RV becomes fully engulfed in fire. Viewer Steven Rumstich shared this video with us of the fire, which happened around 1:40 p.m. a few miles east of Readstown. The RV was stopped at the intersection of U.S. Highway 14 and Holcomb Road. According to Rumstich, the Readstown Fire Department arrived just after he took his video.

Racine County Sheriff investigating house fire in village of Raymond

The Racine County Sheriff's Office is investigating a house fire in the village of Raymond early Tuesday morning. It happened around 12:01 a.m. near 76th St and N Cape Rd. The Racine County Communications center received a 911 call about a deck being on fire. When deputies responded the house was fully engulfed in flames.

Man killed by falling tree while logging in Grant County

A Grant County man was hit and killed by a falling tree while cutting trees for firewood over the weekend. According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, 58-year-old Ronald Conley of Mt. Hope was hit by the falling tree just after noon on Sunday. The accident happened on Big Green Road. Overheated brakes ruled to be cause of I-43 vehicle fire in Green Bay

No one was injured during a vehicle fire Monday morning that caused all lanes of northbound I-43 to temporarily close. The Green Bay Metro Fire Department says crews were called to the northbound lanes at University Avenue at about 9:13 a.m. for a semi that was on fire. When they arrived, they say heavy smoke and fire was coming from the back wheels and brakes of the semi.

First responders from across the Fox Valley participate in active shooter response training

On Monday, September 27, first responders from four different police agencies, two fire departments, and Gold Cross ambulance came together at the old Shopko building in Neenah to train. “We gotta be prepared for the worst, you known, hope for the best type of thing,” Lt. Over 10 local fire departments respond to barn fire in Maple Grove, incident under investigation

A large barn fire in Maple Grove on Sunday morning required the assistance of over 10 local fire departments from three different Northeastern Wisconsin counties. According to the Brillion Fire Department, at around 4:14 a.m., Brillion fire crews responded to the 24100 block Manitowoc Road in the Town of Maple Grove for reports of a barn fire.

La Crosse Fire Chief wants to slow down conversation on adding speed bumps

A speeding issue in an area of one La Crosse neighborhood had the Board of Public Works discussing adding temporary speed bumps. The idea was to put those up on 8th-through-10th streets in the 200 block of King to Cass streets. La Crosse Fire Chief Ken Gilliam said the city needs to look at the impact of such traffic-slowing measures, because it’s a nuisance for fire trucks.

Fire damages building at Cruisers Yachts in Oconto

A fire in one of the buildings in the Cruisers Yachts complex Wednesday could have been much worse without the quick response of employees, according to the Oconto Fire Rescue Department. The department was called out just before 6:30 p.m. and arrived to find smoke venting through many of the doors to Building 16.
