Teen on a mission to build fire trucks out of Legos for every city in Massachusetts

VIDEO: A North Andover teenager is on a mission to build Lego fire trucks for every city in Massachusetts. Cristian Sciaudone, 16, started building the sets with his dad when he was just 4-years-old. He starts by designing each truck with a computer program then spends about three hours building each one.

Washington state fire department digs served their purpose for 91 years

PHOTOS: After cigar ashes ignited a fire in Wenatchee’s Central Market the evening of July 6, 1909, dry winds propelled the flames through several downtown streets. Most of the buildings were made of wood and easily caught fire. Dozens of businesses and residences burned — as did Wenatchee’s first fire station, next to the jail on Columbia Street.

VIDEO: Toddler dropped 2 stories into arms of first responders as New Jersey fire raged

A father and his 2-year-old were safe after the toddler was tossed to safety from a second-story window during an apartment fire in New Jersey on Monday, authorities said. The rescue, which was was captured on video from different angles, involved officials from the South Brunswick Township Police Department and Chief Chris Perez of the Monmouth Junction Fire Department.

Council doubles paid maternity leave for firefighters in Indiana city

Though the Alexandria Fire Department doesn’t have any female firefighters, the city’s Board of Works and Safety on Monday voted unanimously in favor of a contract that would double the number of weeks for paid maternity leave from four to eight. Capt. Adam Matson said the newly approved contract also provides three days of paternity leave.

'I am lost for words': Georgia fire department training turns into marriage proposal

VIDEO: A firefighter drill in Georgia turned into a surprise marriage proposal. Two Savannah fire stations partnered for a training session Wednesday, but unbeknownst to one firefighter, that wasn't the real purpose of the day. In fact, there wasn't going to be a drill at all. Tyler Carlson was blindfolded and sent into a burn building to find a downed firefighter.

East Tennessee firefighter creates life-saving invention

In 2010, an East Tennessee firefighter by the name of Michael Robinson saw first-hand how hot a burning building can be when he almost watched his partner die from overheating. “We didn’t have anything to help us cool off. We had some lukewarm bottles of water, a cold towel around his neck and it could have turned out a lot different but we saved him,” said Robinson.

Firefighter transported to the hospital after raging fire at Tennessee hotel; Fire intentionally set

Rural homeowner in Idaho uses tractor to tow fire engine uphill to fight house fire

PHOTOS: Rural firefighters had to get creative while fighting a house fire in a remote area Saturday night. Swan Valley Fire Department spokeswoman Kat Brainard said the call came in around 9:15 p.m. at 224 Pine Creek Bench Road. A witness had spotted a chimney fire at the home that was spreading to other areas of the residence.

Texas fire department dive team conducts criminal investigations underwater despite outdated equipment
