FDNY EMT records reckless behavior behind the wheel of ambulance

VIDEO - A lame-brained FDNY emergency medical technician drove without his hands as he goofed around inside a city ambulance — and his partner was dumb enough to record the dangerous shenanigans. The 25-second clip shows medic Eric Stone bopping and singing to the rock band Bowling For Soup’s song “1985,” as his partner, Sebastian Vazquez, shrugs his shoulders and shakes his head in mock disgust.

California community mourns death of fire chief's son

Hours after the son of San Bernardino County’s fire chief was found dead in Lake Arrowhead early Sunday morning, a hashtag emerged to remember the 20-year-old’s love of the outdoors, adventure and his family and friends. “Dawson was a man among men. His love of others made the world a better place. Family loved him deeply & will miss him dearly #LoveLikeDawson,” tweeted his father Mark Hartwig late Sunday night.

One death reported after Janesville house fire on South Main Street Sunday night

One person died Sunday night after a house fire on South Main Street, Janesville Fire Chief Randy Banker said at about 9 p.m. A report of a house fire at 603 S. Main St. came in to authorities about 8 p.m., according to a Janesville Police Department news release. Banker said first responders found a fully engulfed house fire with one person trapped.

Holmen Area Fire Department works on mutual aid plans

Barn destroyed by fire in Town of Eagle

A horse barn in rural Eagle was destroyed by fire early this morning. The fire was reported around 1:15 AM at a residence off Draper Road south of Eagle. A 16 by 20 foot pole barn that housed two horses was on fire. The horses were evacuated unharmed from the barn and no individuals were injured. Firefighters were on the scene for about 2-and-a-half hours.

Virginia firefighter reassigned after being arrested for rioting in DC

A Henrico County firefighter has been reassigned after she was arrested for rioting in Washington DC on Inauguration Day. Court documents stated Rosa Roncales was a part of an anarchist group that disrupted inauguration events by smashing windows and setting things on fire. Roncales was charged with felony rioting in connection to the incidents that caused in excess of $100,000, according to court documents.

Michigan man jailed for arson, fire truck ramming

PHOTO - A Grand Rapids man is jailed awaiting arraignment on Thursday after police said he sets fires, tried to break into a pharmacy and rammed an Emmett Township fire engine just before midnight Monday. Court records show Kenneth H. Smith Jr., 30, is being held and should be arraigned in Calhoun County District Court on Thursday afternoon.

New Jersey firehouse burglarized while firefighters rescued man from burning building

Data from Ohio man’s pacemaker leads to arson charges

Investigators used the data from a Middletown man’s pacemaker to help get an indictment in a fire that caused about $400,000 in damages. Ross Compton, 59, has been indicted on felony charges of aggravated arson and insurance fraud for allegedly starting the fire on Sept. 19 at his Court Donegal house.

Beloved Kansas firefighter dies unexpectedly

Hearts were heavy across the Wichita firefighter community on Wednesday as news of the death of one of their own began to settle in. Collis Grisby, a graduate of Northwest High School and a longtime member of the Wichita Fire Department, died unexpectedly this week, according to the department. According to several of his colleagues, Grisby, 53, was not only a fearless and selfless firefighter, he was also one of the most popular people in the department.

Hot dogs help firefighters rescue canine on thin ice in Racine County

Hot dogs helped firefighters rescue a dog stranded on an icy pond Thursday afternoon. The rescue call came in at about 12:30 p.m. after someone spotted a chow mix walking on the ice of a large pond near the 7300 block of Old Spring Street. The dog had a leash attached and it was later determined to have escaped its owner.

Altoona narrows search for new fire chief

The city of Altoona's search for a new chief to lead the fire department is close to coming to an end. City representatives said Wednesday that they have narrowed down the number of applicants from 12 to five. Some of the finalists include individuals right from Altoona and around the area. Before a job offer is made, the city will be holding a public meet and greet as an opportunity for the potential hires to interact with the community that they will be serving.

Johnsen named new Sussex fire chief

The Sussex Fire Commission appointed David Johnsen to serve as the new Sussex fire chief on Tuesday, Jan. 24. Johnsen will join the Sussex Fire Department on Feb. 27; he is fulfilling his final work commitments with his current employer, the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District in Illinois. Johnsen started his 30-year career in fire service with the New Berlin Volunteer Fire Department.
