Atlantic City Fire Department members to have salaries reduced by state

Members of the Fire Department face another round of salary cuts as the state continues to cut spending in the resort. Firefighters will see their salaries reduced 11.3 percent Dec. 10, according to union officials. The move comes two months after Superior Court Judge Julio Mendez ruled the state could cut the department by 15 members, to 180, after Feb.

San Francisco Launches Probe Into Alleged Racism, Hazing at Fire Training Academy

San Francisco city officials have launched a formal probe into allegations of racism and hazing at their fire training academy, NBC Bay Area has learned. The probe, which began this week, is in apparent response to allegations spelled out in a letter sent by eight African American trainees to Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White.

Hot air balloon crashes into power lines in Center

VIDEO: Two people escaped injury Sunday morning when their hot air balloon crashed into power lines on Meade Street north of Wege Road in Outagamie County. One of the occupants felt tingling in his hands when they hit the power lines. They were instructed to stay in the basket until We Energies arrived to cut the power.

Merrill Fire Battalion Chief to retire

A Merrill Battalion Chief, Mike Drury, is walking out of the Fire Department doors after 35 years of service on December 8. Drury has delivered three babies, worked during a tornado, saved the driver of a semi-truck rollover, battled a huge building fire and much more. But, his friends insisted he talk about his helmet modeling days.

Barn engulfed in flames in town of Lyndon

Firefighters were called to a barn fire in the town of Lyndon just after noon on Saturday, Dec. 2. Dispatchers received several 911 calls reporting the barn fire on County Highway F in south-central Sheboygan County. Responding officers said a portion of the barn was fully engulfed, but that it was empty and no injuries were reported.

Vehicle hits state Capitol in Madison

VIDEO: A DOA spokesperson says it appears the driver had a medical event that led to the crash. There is no reported damage to the Capitol building. No one else was in the car when it crashed. Witnesses in the area at the time of the crash describe what they saw. "I was walking by and there was a car next to the Capitol.

Car fire spreads to garage and house in Fond du Lac

PHOTO: On Saturday around 6:04 p.m. Fond du Lac Fire responded to 438 4th Street for a car fire. When firefighters arrived they found a car fire that spread to the house and garage. The fire also melted the siding of a neighboring house. The owner of the car used a fire extinguisher to try and put the fire out before firefighters arrived.

Sun Prairie EMS assists with double-fatality crash in Windsor

Sun Prairie EMS paramedics assisted Dane County Sheriff's Deputies in responding to a double-fatality crash Nov. 30 in the Village of Windsor. Dane County Sheriff's Lt. Krista Ewers-Hayes said at 5:06 p.m., Dane County Deputies, assisted by DeForest Police, DeForest Fire personnel and Sun Prairie EMS, responded to a two-vehicle crash near the 6800 Block of North Towne Road in the Village of Windsor.

Mauston fire station costlier than expected

A new Mauston fire station may cost more than initially anticipated. The Mauston City Council gave an update on progress to the new fire station at its meeting Nov. 28. Originally, the cost of the fire station was anticipated to be about $2.3 million. But Mauston City Administrator Nathan Thiel believes the likely cost will actually range between $2.

New York Firefighter Dies After Technical Rescue Call

A 60-year-old New York firefighter/safety officer has died in his sleep of an apparent cardiac issue after responding to a technical rescue hours before. According to the United States Fire Administration (USFA), Robert A. Fitch, a member of the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department, had responded to a rescue call involving a person who became stuck on some cliffs after attempting to rescue a pet.

Texas fire chief tells senior staff he's ready to move on

After more than 10 years as Fort Worth's fire chief, Rudolph "Rudy" Jackson Jr. has announced his retirement effective in March. "He said he has had a long career here as a firefighter and he's moving on to retired life," said Kyle Falkner, Fire Department spokesman. Jackson, who was named chief in March 2007, has been with the department for more than 35 years.

Florida firefighter sues employer of dead workers he tried saving

A Key Largo firefighter who came close to death trying in vain to save three underground utility workers felled by noxious fumes beneath a neighborhood street last January is suing those men’s employers for negligence. Disability retirement filing deadline for New York firefighters with certain cancers extended three years under new law

Firefighters dealing with certain cancers will have more time to file for accidental disability retirement benefits under a bill signed into law late Wednesday by Gov. Cuomo. The bill extends the filing deadline to five years, up from two. It will retroactively apply to all disability retirement applications filed since Jan.

Broken toaster causes fire that severely damages home in Oshkosh

A malfunctioning toaster stuck in the down position caused a kitchen fire that severely damaged a home Thursday on the city's north side. Firefighters responded about 1 p.m. to the home in the 1200 block of Ontario Street, where they found heavy smoke, according to the Oshkosh Fire Department. One person was at home but escaped without any injuries.

Kewaunee Fire Museum honors long department history

Grass fire damages 15-plus acres in the Town of Sun Prairie

No injuries were reported as a result of a grass fire in the Town of Sun Prairie on Wednesday, Nov. 29. Sun Prairie Fire Dept. Lt. Becky Gruber said firefighters were dispatched at 1:28 p.m. to the 2800 block of South Bird Street for a small outside fire. Upon the first truck’s arrival, a small area of grass land was on fire approximately 16 feet in diameter, located off of a driveway.

Colorado fire station under construction catches fire

An Aurora Fire station under construction near East Jewell Avenue and E-470 caught fire Wednesday afternoon. Fire crews battled flames shooting from the roof of Aurora Fire Station No. 15, which is currently under construction in the Murphy Creek neighborhood. The two-alarm fire broke out sometime Wednesday afternoon at the construction site located at 1880 South Flat Rock Trail.

Florida union says fired paramedic was suffering from PTSD after Pulse nightclub shootings

The Orlando firefighters union says the paramedic fired last week because he violated health privacy laws was suffering from PTSD after responding to the Pulse nightclub massacre and was not receiving the treatment he requested. Josh Granada, who was one of the first responders to Pulse in June 2016, was terminated after he admitted to audio-recording a person during a medical call earlier this year and sharing it with co-workers.
