FirstNet launches ruthless-preemption functionality for 'primary' public-safety subscribers

New Jersey judge delays state-mandated Atlantic City firefighter salary cuts

An Atlantic County Superior Court judge has delayed a second round of state-mandated salary cuts to the city Fire Department. Judge Julio Mendez ruled Monday that an 11.3 percent salary cut can’t go into effect until he hears the department’s injunction requests Jan. 10, because irreparable damage could result before the hearing.

Illinois fire department seeing improved response times, more use of vehicles, crews

Changes in the past two years have improved Bloomington Fire Department's response times, but Fire Chief Brian Mohr said the changes also have increased the use of other vehicles and crews on medical runs that is taxing the understaffed department. "Our benchmark is the six-minute response time. Our goal is to be doing that at 90 percent of the time," said Mohr.

Portage panel plans for fire chief, other leaders succession

Portage Fire Chief Clayton Simonson has been at the helm of the Portage Fire Department for 13 years, and hasn’t indicated any readiness to retire. But when the time comes for Simonson to hang up his turnout gear — temporarily or permanently — there’s a plan in place to pinpoint his successor. The city’s Human Resources Committee on Tuesday took a long look at a draft of a succession plan for Simonson.

State can no longer enforce apartment building sprinkler rule

Oneida County emergency responders, snowplow drivers work through first heavy snowfall of the season

But sometimes those snow covered roads make it hard for people to get their jobs done. One injured in Janesville fire

2 dead after mobile home fire in Buffalo County

Two people were killed in an early morning fire in Buffalo County. It happened around 5 a.m. in Buffalo City on Circle Drive. According to the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Department, the fire was on the back half of a mobile home. Shortly after arriving, deputies say there was a small explosion that they believe was a small propane tank located near the home.

New Jersey firefighters say State hired private eye to track them at their homes

Miami firefighter union agrees to defend fired members

Miami's firefighters union agreed Tuesday to help six members -- fired after they were accused of "sexually explicit and racially offensive conduct" -- get their jobs back. The men had filed grievances with the union contesting their terminations. The matter will now go to the city and then, most likely, to arbitration.

Four suspected in Maryland volunteer fire company assault are arrested

Four people allegedly involved in an attempted sexual assault and harassment of a 17-year-old at Fallston Volunteer Fire Company have been arrested, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday. Andrew Burkins, 21, of the 900 block of Winters Court in Bel Air, John Hefner, 20, of the 2400 block of Burham Drive in Fallston, and Colby Ogrysko, 19, of the 1900 block of Pleasantville Road in Forest Hill, are each charged with attempted first- and second-degree rape, third- and fourth-degree sex offense, second-degree assault, harassment and two counts of conspiracy to commit third-degree sex offense, according to online court records.

Oakland firefighter who visited Ghost Ship in 2014 saw ‘high fire load’

New program advances Illinois firefighters’ medical training

Laying on the floor of his home Tuesday afternoon, 6-year-old Junior was unresponsive after suffering a heart attack. A crew from Springfield’s Fire Station No. 6 rushed in, took their positions and started chest compressions. A tube was put in his airway. A defibrillator sent a shock to his heart. Because Junior’s vessels were limp from a lack of blood, a firefighter drilled a hole into Junior’s knee and injected cardiac medication into his bone marrow.

13-year-old boy discovers fire in Woodruff home, helped alert authorities and saved pets

A Woodruff family now finds themselves without a home for the holidays after a fire late Tuesday afternoon caused severe damage. No criminal charges for volunteer firefighter who drove into bar in West Bend

A Washington County volunteer firefighter won’t face any criminal charges after crashing his truck into a bar. It happened on December 3rd in West Bend. 47-year-old Bradley Enright was cited for OWI, first offense, but the owners of Rally Time, the bar that was struck, have opted not to press charges.

Early morning fire damages Wausau duplex

Residents got out safely Tuesday morning when a fire broke out in their home, according to police. A caller reported a fire in a duplex in the 500 block of Chicago Avenue 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. Firefighters and police responded to the scene and the fire was extinguished by 2 a.m., according to the Wausau Police Department.
