Riverside, Kronenwetter firefighters learn how specialized equipment will help make their jobs easier, safer

First responders are getting some specialized training this week. Crews from Jerry's Towing teamed up with the Riverside Fire Department to show firefighters some specialized equipment that will help them respond to different crash scenarios, including semi rollovers. This equipment will not only make their jobs easier, it'll make them safer, too.

A year after the flood: Inside Green Bay Fire Station 5's $1M repairs

Chippewa considers services for Wheaton

A Chippewa Falls committee recommended approval of a plan Tuesday to provide EMS and ambulance services for a portion of the town of Wheaton, paving the way for the town to leave the Chippewa Fire District. Last week, the Wheaton town board voted 4-1 to leave the Fire District, contingent on its ability to obtain contracts for EMS/ambulance services from Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire.

Firefighters extinguish house fire in Marathon County

Firefighters extinguished a house fire in Marathon County Tuesday night. Mosinee Fire Chief Stephen Haas said crews responded to the blaze around 8:30 p.m. on Lone Pine Lane near Knowlton. Haas said there was heavy fire coming from the house when crews arrived, and it was under control by 10 p.m. Haas said there were no injuries reported, and no one was in the house.

Madison restaurant where fire broke out didn't have automatic sprinkler system, fire officials say

Multiple units from the Madison Fire Department responded to a large early-morning commercial fire on the city's west side Wednesday. The Madison Fire Department said it is investigating the cause of a fire at Cowboy Jack's on John Q. Hammons Drive that was reported at about 3:30 a.m. The responders who were first to the scene saw "heavy fire and smoke coming from the building," according to the report.

Fire Pension Board takes action to seize millions it says are owed by Illinois city

Since East St. Louis was freed of oversight from the Illinois Financial Authority in 2013, the city has fallen nearly $2.3 million short in mandated payments to the fund that supports firefighters and their families in retirement, according to an audit. The East St. Louis Fire Pension Board on Monday voted unanimously to recover those contributions from the city through an “intercept procedure,” in which it would petition Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza’s office to seize state payments to the city and deposit them directly to the pension funds.

Dallas Firefighters Rescuing First Responders From Bad Coffee

Body of fallen Maine firefighter Captain Michael Bell returns home

Scabies Outbreak Affects 20 Maryland County Firefighters

One dead in Monona following fatal crash between car, pole

A Madison man is dead after his car crashed into a pole in Monona Monday night. Dane County dispatch said the Monona Fire and Police departments responded to the crash in the 4600 block of Winnequah Road at 7:23 p.m. The driver, 21, was the only person in the car, and no other injuries were reported.

Village of Suamico develops plan for new fire station; discusses adding EMS wing

The Village of Suamico continues to see growth and its fire department is looking to grow right along with it. Village leaders are in the process of designing a brand new fire station. It's expected to cost $5-6 million. The department has outgrown its current fire station, built in 1967, along Riverside Drive in the heart of downtown Suamico.

Rotting cookies to blame for Madison middle school evacuation

A Madison middle school was evacuated Friday afternoon after staff smelled a natural gas and firefighters traced the odor to rotting cookies. According to the Madison Fire Department's Public Information Officer, Cynthia Schuster, fire crews investigated the odor at 2:38 p.m. Friday at Blackhawk Middle School on Wyoming Way.
