Firefighters quickly put out fire at Madison home with two dogs stuck inside

Two dogs were heard barking from a burning Madison home late Tuesday morning as firefighters arrived to quell the blaze. According to the Madison Fire Dept., multiple people called 911 around 10:40 a.m. to report the east Madison home was on fire. Firefighters could see smoke and flames near the front door as they got to the scene, in the 5400 block of Spicebush Lane.

Two people injured in Janesville house explosion

Two people were injured following a house explosion in Janesville Monday night, according to the Janesville Fire Department. Firefighters were sent to a fully-engulfed house fire on the 800 block of Hawthorne Avenue at 9:15 p.m. Janesville Fire Battalion Chief Ron Bomkamp said one of the duplex's tenants reported they smelled gas by the water heater for several days.

A fire destroyed a condominium unit just north of Sister Bay Saturday in the Town of Liberty Grove. All northern Door County fire departments responded to the fire that erupted at a Liberty Park Waterfront Condominiums just north of JJ’s La Puerta restaurant, across from Liberty Park West Circle in Sister Bay Saturday evening.

Warehouse Fire Devastates San Francisco’s Fishing Industry

A huge fire that tore through a warehouse on San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf has destroyed fishing gear used to deliver about two-thirds of the city’s fresh seafood, threatening to disrupt the upcoming Dungeness crab season, local fishermen said Sunday. The fire erupted before dawn Saturday and wiped out the warehouse the size of a football field near the end of Pier 45.

Pandemic Could Boost Case for Iowa First Responders' 'Essential' Status

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to unfold, Iowa's first responders say the state should no longer hold off on declaring Emergency Medical Services an essential service. That status is something EMS workers in Iowa have sought long before COVID-19. Being declared "essential" would require ambulance service across the state, instead of relying on a patchwork of volunteers, agencies and providers.

Fire truck adorned with flag tips over in Pennsylvania

The view from Chopper 6 showed the truck on its side in a parking lot. The extended ladder was on the ground, stretched across the roadway in the area 4040 Ferry Road.

1 treated for smoke inhalation in Zachow fire

Officials say a man was treated for smoke inhalation Friday night during a Shawano County fire. The fire, which happened at Krueger Kustoms, an automotive shop in the Town of Zachow, started around 9 p.m. Pulaski fire officials say more than a dozen departments responded to the fire, which they say was accidental and was started while workers were repairing a vehicle.

Madison Fire Department: 3 displaced after residential fire on city's east side

A residential fire in the 200 block of Memphis Avenue displaced three residents early Sunday morning. The Madison Fire Department received a call at 2:09 a.m. reporting heavy smoke and an active fire coming from a home on Memphis Avenue. When firefighters arrived at the scene they found the front of the home engulfed in flames.

Kayaker rescued from river island in Town of Grafton

A kayaker was rescued Saturday afternoon after she fell out of her kayak and was trapped on an island in the Town of Grafton, say fire officials. According to the Grafton Fire Department Facebook post, crews were called to the Milwaukee River around 2:30 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived, they noticed several people in the river trying to help the trapped kayaker and one of those people needed to be rescued, said Fire Chief William Rice.

Governor announces $100M grant program for EMS, with federal CARES funds

Gov. Tony Evers announced Thursday a $100 million grant program funded by the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security, or CARES, Act that will help facilities providing different kinds of care amid the pandemic. In a news release, Evers said the funding will support Wisconsin providers emergency medical services, home and community-based services and long-term care providers such as skilled nursing facilities and assisted living facilities.

Town of Leon home suffers extensive damage during blaze

A house in Leon suffered extensive damage in a fire late Wednesday night. The Sparta Area Fire District received the call at 10:15 p.m. of a fire on Jamboree Road in the town of Leon. When crews arrived on scene the house was fully engulfed and all the residents had made it out safely. According to a neighbor, the fire started on the deck and quickly spread while the occupants were downstairs watching TV.

A Poignant EMS Week Amid a Historic Pandemic

National EMS Week is an annual event throughout the United States which celebrates and recognizes the hard work that all EMS providers do on a daily basis – from emergency medical technicians (EMTs) up to paramedics. Pennsylvania EMT dies after battle with COVID-19, weeks after virus takes brother

Jeremy Emerich, a critical care EMT on the ground for Lehigh Valley Health Network’s MedEvac, died Thursday following a battle with COVID-19, friends and coworkers said on social media. Emerich was also a U.S. Armed Forces veteran and an active firefighter in Fleetwood, the Berks County community where he lived with his companion, Shana Konek.

Texas fire department to test for COVID-19, train other departments as part of state Strike Force reopening effort

CDC estimates that 35% of coronavirus patients don't have symptoms

In new guidance for mathematical modelers and public health officials, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is estimating that about a third of coronavirus infections are asymptomatic. The CDC also says its "best estimate" is that 0.4% of people who show symptoms and have COVID-19 will die, and the agency estimates that 40% of coronavirus transmission is occurring before people feel sick.

FEMA stops in SE Wisconsin to see how operations to combat COVID-19 are playing out

California sheriff backs bill outlawing dead-body photos by first responders in wake of Kobe Bryant incident

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said Wednesday, May 20, that he backs a bill moving its way through the Assembly that would make it a crime for first responders in California to take photos of dead bodies at emergency sites unless for an investigation. Assembly Bill 2655 would make it a misdemeanor for police officers, sheriff’s deputies, firefighters, paramedics and other emergency personnel responding to disasters to take such photos.

Six homes destroyed in Texas apartment fire

VIDEO: Six homes were destroyed early Thursday morning in a roaring apartment fire in Tomball. The fire started around 4 a.m. at the Cobble Creek Apartments on Lawrence Street near Medical Complex Drive. Tomball police officers helped neighbors evacuate the building as flames tore through the roof, firefighters said.
