Multiple agencies called to Caledonia house fire

A house incurred extensive damage and firefighters coped with trying conditions due to the hot weather at the scene of a fire Monday afternoon. Caledonia and South Shore firefighters were dispatched just after 2 p.m. Monday to the residence located at 6821 Beechnut Drive, just south of Six Mile Road.

Waukesha Fire Department called to apartment fire, no injuries reported

Fire officials were called to a house fire near S. West Avenue and Richard Street around 10 p.m. Sunday, July 6th for a report of the smell of smoke in the building. Upon arrival crews found smoke coming from the roof of a two-story, four-family building. Fire crews immediately entered the building and assisted one resident out.

Madison fire caused by improperly discarded fireworks

Improperly discarded fireworks caused a house fire on Madison’s west side Sunday night, according to a release from the city’s fire department. Crews were dispatched to a home along the 400 block of Seven Nations Drive around 11 p.m Saturday for reports of a porch on fire. Firefighters arrived to find flames and smoke coming from the front of the house, the release said.

Fire destroys garage, damages homes in Appleton

A fire destroyed a detached garage and caused significant damage to the exteriors of two homes on Appleton’s southeast side Sunday evening. Firefighters found the two-stall garage engulfed when they responded to the report of a fire on the 1200-block of S. Walden Ave. at 6:45 P.M. They had the fire out in 10 minutes, but it took another 45 minutes to cool down the hot spots.

With hundreds of firefighters in quarantine, Houston Fire Department is running on empty as pandemic surge continues

The Houston Fire Department said its firefighters are running on empty as they try to keep up with the city’s pandemic surge. HFD Chief Sam Pena said about 300 firefighters are in quarantine. Pena said the ones not in quarantine are overworked and there is no end in sight. “Yes, they’re being stretched thin, and yes, they’re being overworked and it is stressful for them,” Pena said.

Unruly July 4th Crowd in California Slowed Fire Response To Emergency Call

VIDEO: An Oakland fire crew was delayed on making an emergency medical call July 4th evening when an unruly mob near Lake Merritt blocked its path and climbed onto the engine. The incident was captured on a video released Sunday night on the Oakland Firefighters Facebook page. The video showed a crowd gathered around an Oakland fire truck at the intersection of Lakeshore and Brooklyn Avenues on the east side of Lake Merritt.

Four Indiana firefighters recovering after drunk driver crashes car into fire engine

Four Beech Grove firefighters are recovering after a drunk driver drove a car into the fire engine and then hit the officers. Five firefighters were responding to a trash fire Saturday night in the 5900 block of East Troy Avenue near North 25th Avenue just after 10 p.m. As the firefighters were deploying the hose line, a car crashed into the fire engine and hit a light pole and four of the firefighters.

As COVID-19 cases rise in some states, leaders mull how to combat first wave resurgence

After consistently moving toward flattening the curve, positive cases of COVID-19 have been climbing in the last two weeks across several states. Florida had the most dramatic increase of cases, jumping from 3,235 daily new cases per 100,000 people on June 22 to 9,019 daily new cases June 27, according to the Johns Hopkins University & Medicine Coronavirus Resource Center.

New York: South Buffalo fire evokes memories of 1997 tragedy

VIDEO: The fire believed to have been sparked by illegal fireworks that severely damaged a South Buffalo house Friday offered a pair of grim reminders. One was of the danger of fireworks. The other was of a tragedy that still resonates within the Buffalo Fire Department. “This fire was eerily similar to a fire that took the life of one of our firefighters, Michael Seguin, some 23 years ago,” Fire Commissioner William Renaldo said.

Barn considered total loss after fire in Dodge County

A barn is considered a total loss after a fire in Dodge County. According to the Reeseville Fire Department, crews were called to W10409 Highway I around 7:40 P.M. Friday night. Fire Chief Nic Gay said upon arrival the barn was engulfed in flames and a nearby shed was also on fire. Initial reports said that four people were accounted for as they went back into the barn to rescue animals, according to firefighters.

Family mourns loss of Lake Mills fire captain after battle with leukemia

The Lake Mills Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its own. Capt. Mark Bentheimer, 55, died this week after battling leukemia for four months. He was the department's most senior captain. "His passion was definitely the fire department, his family, his grandkids," said his wife, Peggy Bentheimer.

Manitowoc house fire reportedly caused by disposed fireworks

9 residents displaced after apartment fire in Green Bay

Nine people have been displaced after a fire starts within a 16 unit apartment building on Saturday night. According to the Green Bay Metro Fire Department, at around 8:30 p.m., crews responded to the 2700 block of Humboldt Road for a report of a fire in a 16 unit apartment building. Arriving crews said they observed fire coming out of a second-story window and due to the fire being within the apartment building and the hot weather, additional fire units and ambulances were requested.

Firefighters respond when building with many violations collapses in Brooklyn; 1 injury reported

Cleanup was underway Thursday at a multistory health club shuttered by the coronavirus pandemic that collapsed into a heap of rubble in Brooklyn a day earlier. Videos posted on Citizen app show FDNY trucks, an ambulance, and numerous police officers and other first responders near a pile of rubble and debris where the three-story building in Carroll Gardens used to stand at the corner of Court Street and Union Street.

Officials: Alabama students throwing 'COVID parties' to see who gets infected

La Crosse fire chief's annual report cites higher volume, no civilian casualties
