Update: Tennessee community refuses to cover new neighborhood in case of fire emergency

Tempers flared Thursday night at a Foster Falls community meeting as representatives for the new Jasper Highlands development tried to convince the local fire department to respond to emergency calls while the developers construct their own fire department. By the end of the meeting, which was filled with shouting and accusations, nothing changed.

First-responders to Oklahoma City bombing responsible for raising thousands for memorial

It may have been 20 years since the Oklahoma City bombing, but those first responders who came together on April 19, 1995 are still making an impact today. A memorial badge was created in their honor to benefit the Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum. The Oklahoma City National Memorial Foundation received more than $75,000 Thursday morning after a limited time badge and coin were created.

Hartford Firefighters To Get New Breathing Apparatus

About 150 firefighters in the Hartford Fire Department will be getting state-of-the-art breathing apparatus equipment that will allow incident commanders to electronically track every firefighter who enters a burning building. Firefighter who alleged sex assault at Texas firehouse won't 'sit back, hide from it'

Wisconsin firefighter accused of crashing truck during joyride, resigns

A Mosinee firefighter accused of taking a fire engine on an early morning joyride and then crashing it after a night out drinking has resigned and his chief has requested that no criminal charges be filed in the case. Kody Krieg resigned in August after an investigation into the crash, according an internal investigation report obtained by Daily Herald Media under open-records law.

Connecticut town votes to expand pool of firefighter applicants to enhance diversification

In an effort to enhance diversification at the fire department, the personnel board on Wednesday voted to set aside the so-called “rule of three” to allow the fire chief to choose from a broader list of qualified candidates. Following some strong opinions voiced by residents in opposition, however, the board tabled a separate request from Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio for authorization to hire as a probationary recruit a New London resident who had worked with the fire department but who did not make it onto the eligibility list.

Fleeing man tries to hit Ohio firefighter, strikes firetruck

A Mansfield man was arrested Wednesday after police alleged he tried to run over a firefighter and caused two crashes while fleeing from authorities. The driver, Kalvin Gross, 21, was believed to be under the influence of drugs during the pursuit, Mansfield police Sgt. Mike Napier said. Detroit city council confirms new fire commissioner

On the heels of a historically safe Angels' Night weekend, the Detroit City Council today confirmed Mayor Mike Duggan's choice for executive fire commissioner, Eric Jones. The council voted 8-1 to confirm Jones' appointment. Council President Brenda Jones voted no, she said, because Eric Jones lacks experience as a firefighter.

Committee restores Green Bay firefighter jobs

Four firefighter positions were restored in Green Bay’s 2016 budget by the city’s joint personnel and finance committee on Tuesday. The four-person committee opted to keep the positions and instead reorganize fire department administration, slash overtime pay for public works staff and shave off a number of other small expenses to make up for a projected $819,300 revenue loss.

Pay hike approved for Los Angeles County firefighters

Los Angeles County supervisors today unanimously approved a 10 percent pay raise for firefighters, deputy sheriffs, criminalists, correction officers, coroner investigators, probation officers, supervising child support officers and deputy district attorneys. The raise will be spread out over three years, according to labor pacts the county reached with unions representing those workers.
